Southern Palms Resort Introduce
Looking for a 'camping near me' experience in the Eustis, Florida area? Southern Palms Resort, located at One Avocado Ln, Eustis, FL 32726, offers a camping option that caters to RV travelers and potentially longer-term residents. With contact numbers (352) 357-8882 and +1 352-357-8882, it's accessible for inquiries and bookings. Based on recent customer reviews, Southern Palms Resort presents a somewhat nuanced picture, suggesting a need for local users to consider various factors before making a reservation.
One reviewer described their assigned site as "okay—definitely not a 4 or 5-star spot, but acceptable for a short stay." This indicates that while the basic needs might be met, potential campers should manage their expectations regarding the quality and aesthetics of individual sites. The experience appears to vary depending on the specific location within the resort. For local users planning a short getaway, this might still be a viable option, especially if other aspects of the resort appeal to them.
A significant point raised in the review concerns the maneuverability of larger RVs. The user with a 40 ft RV and a trailer encountered "a bit of a challenge" getting into their assigned site due to the layout. This is crucial information for local RV owners who are considering Southern Palms Resort. If you have a larger rig, it would be highly advisable to inquire specifically about site accessibility and perhaps request a site known to accommodate larger vehicles. The reviewer explicitly stated, "If we return, we’d definitely request a different site for an easier setup," highlighting the importance of site selection.
The social dynamics at Southern Palms Resort seem to be a notable characteristic. The reviewer observed "quite a few locals staying there, including one setup with a large fenced-in area for kids to play." This suggests a community feel with a mix of short-term visitors and potentially long-term residents. The observation that it might be "a more affordable alternative to owning a home in the area" provides an interesting perspective on the resort's role within the local housing landscape. For local users seeking a sense of community or perhaps even considering a longer stay, this could be a positive aspect. However, the reviewer, being from out of town, noted it was a "different vibe than we’re used to," indicating that the atmosphere might be more akin to a residential community than a traditional transient RV park.
The layout of Southern Palms Resort appears to be divided, with the "main park" located across the street. This area was described as "a little nicer" and "more geared toward long-term snowbirds, with a more polished setup overall." This suggests that there might be two distinct sections within or associated with Southern Palms Resort, potentially offering different levels of amenities and ambiance. Local users might want to inquire about the differences between these areas when booking to ensure they are placed in the section that best suits their needs and preferences.
One of the most significant points of feedback, particularly concerning the overall experience, relates to the recreational facilities. The reviewer mentioned that Southern Palms Resort potentially offers "the best social activities at an RV resort in Florida." This could be a major draw for local campers looking for a lively and engaging environment. However, this positive aspect is significantly dampened by the fact that "the main pool has been closed all winter if not longer." The closure of a key amenity like the main pool for an extended period is a serious drawback and, according to the reviewer, "really drags a memorable stay down. Bummer." Furthermore, the alternative requires a 1.5-mile drive to a neighboring pool, adding inconvenience. Local users who prioritize having on-site recreational facilities, especially a pool, should definitely inquire about the current status of the main pool and the accessibility of the alternative before booking.
Considering these reviews, Southern Palms Resort offers a mixed bag for local users searching for 'camping near me.' Its potential for social activities could be a significant plus for those seeking interaction and community. The presence of long-term residents might contribute to a unique, perhaps more settled, atmosphere. However, the varying quality of sites, potential challenges for large RVs, and the significant issue of the closed main pool are factors that need careful consideration.
For local residents considering Southern Palms Resort, it would be prudent to:
- Call the provided phone numbers to inquire about site availability and request specific sites if you have a larger RV or preferences regarding site quality.
- Ask about the status of the main pool and the details of the neighboring pool access (hours, availability, any associated costs).
- Inquire about the differences between the main park across the street and the area where the reviewer stayed to ensure you book in your preferred location.
- If social activities are a priority, ask for information about any planned events or community gatherings during your intended stay.
By taking these steps, local users can gather more detailed and up-to-date information to determine if Southern Palms Resort aligns with their expectations for a 'camping near me' experience in Eustis, Florida. While it may not be a top-tier luxury resort, it could still offer a suitable option for those prioritizing a social environment or seeking a more budget-friendly longer-term stay, provided they are aware of the potential drawbacks highlighted in the reviews.

The site we were given was okay—definitely not a 4 or 5-star spot, but acceptable for a short stay. If we return, we’d definitely request a different site for an easier setup. There seemed to be quite a few locals staying there, including one setup with a large fenced-in area for kids to play. It was a bit surprising—hard to tell if all the toddlers belonged to the same family. Maybe it’s just a more affordable alternative to owning a home in the area. As someone from out of town, it was a different vibe than we’re used to, but perhaps that's the norm here. The main park is actually located across the street and appeared to be a little nicer. Apr 05, 2025 · AlrityPerhaps the best social activities at an RV resort in Florida. However the main pool has been closed all winter if not longer. You have to drive 1-1/2 miles to use a neighboring one. Really drags a memorable stay down. Bummer.
Mar 26, 2025 · Chris PoulouinThousand Trail/Encore @ Southern Palms Resort was a great experience. Had after hours service for our late arrival, front desk girls were accommodating, park was quiet and I was able to work for about a week and a half with no issues! Thank you!
Mar 07, 2025 · Gary ClarkArrived and were put in a standard site after reserving a premium site. The site had no cable TV or wifi. Even though the campground was not even half full, we were put in a site that was as close to the public highway as you could get. The roads are a trucking thoroughfare which gave us little to no break in noise. We were right by the back entrance which the park started repaving the day after we arrived and continued for three days. The noise from the construction equipment started in the morning and lasted most of the day. Again, the park wasn't even half full and we could have been put in any number of sites to solve these issues. It was never offered nor was the price adjustment for being in a standard site versus a premium. Also, the pool was closed down and the bocce courts appeared not to have used or maintained for a long time. I would not recommend Southern Palms at all.
Dec 16, 2024 · john lananIt started out good. The gentleman who helps you park was great. From there not so good. I called before I arrived to ensure there would be activities and was told yes the activities were up and running. The pool and hot tub are closed. The activities I would like to do are on the other side of the highway so I asked about moving over there. Nope, only park models allowed. No problem, I will walk over. BUT, you can't walk as I was told you would have to walk through the fairgrounds and a big ditch. Asked several people and told not to try. Asked about a shuttle, nope. OK, I will drive my rig as I don't have a tow vehicle. Nope, no room to park over there. It was suggested I try asking for a ride in the Facebook group. Nope, no replies to the post. Looks like my only option is a taxi each way. Not very happy right now. This should have been posted on the website before I booked.
