Situated in the vicinity of the renowned Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Station Camp Campground provides a serene environment with access to natural beauty and outdoor activities.
Based on recent customer reviews, Station Camp Campground is described as "clean and well kept," indicating a commitment to maintaining a pleasant environment for visitors. The appreciation for new picnic tables and bear-safe storage containers highlights the campground's efforts to enhance the camping experience and ensure the safety of both campers and wildlife. These features are particularly valuable in an area known for its natural surroundings and potential wildlife encounters, such as the region around the Big South Fork.
One reviewer noted the impact of recent storms, mentioning a significant number of fallen trees on the trails. This suggests that the campground is located in a wooded area prone to natural events. Despite the storm damage, the reviewer also commented that the trails were "nice" even after a lot of rain, indicating good trail maintenance and resilience to weather conditions. However, this reviewer expressed a concern regarding the placement of larger rocks on the trails for erosion control, noting that these can be problematic for horses' hooves. This suggests that equestrian activities might be popular in the area and that the trails may be multi-use.
Another visitor described Station Camp Campground as "super quiet," emphasizing the tranquil atmosphere that many campers seek for relaxation. They also noted the friendly and polite demeanor of everyone they encountered, suggesting a welcoming and positive community among campers and potentially staff. This reviewer appreciated the ample space at their campsite (numbered 12 & 11) and the ease of finding free firewood, a significant convenience for those planning campfires. Furthermore, they were impressed with the "decent restrooms" considering the secluded location, indicating that while the campground offers a sense of remoteness, basic amenities are provided and well-maintained.
The environment surrounding Station Camp Campground is likely characterized by the natural beauty of the Cumberland Plateau, typical of the Big South Fork region. This includes diverse hardwood forests, varied topography with rolling hills and potentially more rugged areas nearby, and the presence of streams and rivers that feed into the Big South Fork. The mention of trails suggests opportunities for hiking and possibly other activities like horseback riding. The quiet atmosphere reported by a visitor indicates a setting where the sounds of nature prevail, offering a peaceful escape from urban noise.
In terms of services and features, Station Camp Campground appears to offer well-maintained facilities. The presence of new picnic tables and bear-safe storage containers suggests a focus on camper comfort and safety. The availability of free firewood is a notable amenity. The existence of "decent restrooms" indicates that basic hygiene needs are met, even in a secluded setting. The trails are a significant feature, providing opportunities for exploration and recreation, although potential users, especially those with horses, should be aware of the erosion control measures in place.
While the reviews do not explicitly mention specific types of campsites (e.g., tent-only, RV-friendly), the ample space reported at one site suggests that there is variety in site sizes. Local users with specific accommodation needs (e.g., RV hookups) should inquire directly with the campground. The mention of bear-safe storage implies that wildlife is present, and campers should follow guidelines for food storage and disposal to ensure safety.
There is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. Local users interested in any special offers, seasonal rates, or booking procedures should contact Station Camp Campground directly using the provided phone numbers. It would also be advisable to inquire about trail conditions, especially in light of the recent storm damage mentioned in one review, and any specific guidelines for using the trails, particularly for equestrian activities.
For local residents searching within the 'camping near me' category who value cleanliness, tranquility, and access to nature, Station Camp Campground appears to be a highly recommended option. The positive feedback regarding the well-kept grounds, quiet atmosphere, and friendly environment, coupled with the proximity to the Big South Fork area, makes it an attractive destination for a relaxing outdoor getaway. However, potential visitors should be mindful of the trail conditions and the erosion control measures if planning to hike or ride horses.
In conclusion, Station Camp Campground in Oneida, Tennessee, offers a clean, well-maintained, and tranquil camping experience in a beautiful natural setting near the Big South Fork. The provision of new picnic tables and bear-safe storage, along with decent restroom facilities, enhances the comfort and safety of campers. While recent storm damage has affected some trails, they are reported to be in good condition overall. Station Camp Campground Reviews
Clean and well kept. New picnic tables and bear safe storage containers were appreciated. Due to the recent storms there were a lot of trees down on the trails. Even though there had been a lot of rain the trails were nice. I wish they would not put the larger rocks on the trails for erosion control. Horses don't like them on their feet.
Jun 03, 2024 · J. Scott Kline (Let's Ride)Super quiet. Everyone we came in contact with was very nice and polite. Lots of room at our site (12&11) and easy to find free firewood. Decent restrooms for being so secluded, I was impressed!
Oct 09, 2024 · Carolyn WeatherfordSimilar to other reviews, the area was wonderful, clean, and peaceful without others present. However, the following day, we discovered ourselves in the middle of multiple horse-riding parties. With no campground host, these individuals were very loud, and intrusive, and held no concern for others trying to enjoy the camping experience. The site next to us decided to have multiple campfires even though there was a campfire band emailed and posted, while watching football on their TV outside of the camper and having the volume high enough that everyone could hear while only one person was present, and she wasn't watching the game. After their kids screamed many times throughout the day and dragged their plastic toys back and forth on the gravel road repeatedly, we decided to relocate to a quieter area of the park only to learn many of the spots were reserved by campers who didn't show or campers who didn't reserve their spot but decided to camp there anyway for free. We will not return.
Dec 04, 2023 · Jay C.We ride our horses here often. Restrooms are always clean, our campsite was clean, but the campground host was a bit too friendly. As we pulled in and we’re trying to park the horse trailer she was all up in my face telling me how to park my trailer, had her head up in my horses faces while they were in the trailer. She stated she was a “horse” person and I responded that I “was NOT” a people person in hopes she would move along while we got settled in. A real PITA!
Jul 04, 2023 · Angela RyanGreat campground! Spacious sites, not right on top of each other. We will visit again!
