Are you searching for the perfect "camping near me" experience? Look no further than Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday, nestled at 14983 Juniper Hill Rd, Sterling, NY 13156, USA. This campground offers a variety of accommodation options and amenities for local users seeking a convenient and enjoyable outdoor escape. You can reach them at (315) 947-6163 or +1 315-947-6163 to inquire about availability and make reservations.
Based on real customer feedback, Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday presents a mixed experience. Some visitors have highlighted the friendly and accommodating nature of the staff, which is a significant plus for any camping destination. The availability of different lodging options, including small and medium-sized cabins, caters to various needs and preferences. For those seeking an upgrade from traditional tent camping, the cabins offer a more comfortable alternative with features like full or twin-sized beds (remember to bring your own linens), small refrigerators/freezers, microwaves, and coffee makers (don't forget your coffee, creamer, and sugar!). Each cabin also includes an outdoor area with a fire pit and picnic table, perfect for enjoying the natural surroundings and evening campfires (firewood is available for purchase at the office).
For those traveling with recreational vehicles, the campground offers RV sites. Tent camping is also an option for those who prefer a more traditional camping experience. The campground is pet-friendly, allowing you to bring your furry companions along for the adventure, although it's important to note that dogs are not permitted inside the cabins, so plan accordingly.
However, some reviews point out areas where the campground could improve. Privacy between campsites appears to be limited, with guests noting that sites are close together and noise travels easily both within and outside the cabins. This is something to consider if you highly value seclusion during your camping trip. Additionally, the cabin showers have been described as small with limited hot water capacity (approximately 8 minutes), and they operate on a coin system in the bathhouse ($1 for about 5 minutes). Some guests have suggested a timer-based system or alternative payment methods for the showers.
Water quality is another aspect that has received negative feedback. Some visitors have reported an unpleasant smell and taste to the well water, despite the campground's claim of chlorine treatment. It's advisable to bring your own drinking water as a precaution. Furthermore, the bathroom odor in at least one cabin was a concern for a guest, requiring the use of air fresheners.
Despite these drawbacks, Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday offers certain conveniences. The office sells firewood, ice, and some smaller necessities, although it is not a full general store. The location provides access to the Sterling area and potentially to Lake Ontario, although the proximity to the lake and beach access are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. It's recommended to inquire directly with the campground about nearby attractions and activities.
Considering the "camping near me" category, Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday provides a local option with a range of accommodation types. It can serve as a functional base for exploring the surrounding area, offering a step up from basic tent camping with the cabin amenities. The friendly staff is a definite asset, and the pet-friendly policy is a bonus for animal lovers.
For local users seeking a quick camping getaway, Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday offers a convenient location and various lodging options. However, it's crucial to be aware of the potential limitations regarding privacy, water quality, and shower facilities based on recent customer experiences. If you prioritize seclusion and high-quality amenities, you might want to weigh these factors against the convenience and basic comfort offered.
To make the most informed decision, local users are encouraged to contact Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday directly at (315) 947-6163 or +1 315-947-6163 to ask specific questions about site availability, water quality, shower facilities, and any current promotional offers. Inquire about the proximity to Lake Ontario and any local attractions that might enhance your camping experience. By gathering the most up-to-date information, you can determine if Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday aligns with your expectations for a "camping near me" adventure.
While the reviews provide valuable insights, remember that individual experiences can vary. Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday might be a suitable option for local campers seeking a basic and conveniently located campground, especially if you come prepared with extra water and are aware of the potential for close neighbors. Always confirm the latest details and availability directly with the campground before making your booking.

Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday Reviews
If you hope to get any privacy, go somewhere else. Rented the medium size cabin for 3 days, it worked, but wasn't as comfortable as i had hoped it would be. There is no room between sites. So there didn't feel like there was much privacy. You can hear everything going on outside and from outside you can hear everything whispered in the cabin. It's got the smallest shower with the smallest water heater. Warm shower only for 8 min. So I guess you have to only turn the water on when you rinse. Oh, and the smell, taste and feeling the water leaves on your skin is disgusting. We couldn't drink the water. They said they have their well chlorine treated but it does not smell like chlorine. It smells like swamp. And tastes awful. The bathroom stinks so bad from the toilet water I had to burn incense the whole time we were here to even bare to be in it. Thankfully we weren't here to spend time in the cabin. So we weren't there much. But it was more comfortable than tent camping. But for the price, next time I think I'll go to a hotel or something closer to the beach. Because for what it was, I don't believe it was worth the money.
Aug 25, 2024 · Ayla DiazWe stayed at the Sterling Creek Campground from July 5th(afternoon)- July 8th(AM). The folks that run the place were very friendly and accommodating when needed. We stayed in a small cabin with a full sized bed(you need to bring your own linens), rather small when you're used to a queen, but it beats sleeping on the floor. It was surprisingly comfortable. There is also a twin size mattress under the bed for another person. It would've been nicer with a ceiling fan or a box fan, luckily we brought our own, so it wasn't too stuffy. There are 3 windows which can be opened to help circulate the air. The cabin has a small fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee maker (bring your own coffee/creamer/sugar). Outside has a nice area for a fire (the office sells wood, ice and other smaller things, it's not a general store) with a fireplace and picnic tables. There is an RV very close on the one side, so you will have neighbors, most likely. You can use the bath house to do your business or take a shower. Be sure to bring quarters for the shower. It costs $1 for about 5 mins. I personally think a timer without having to pay is a better option. If the pay option remains, I would explore one that takes cash or debit. The campground is pet friendly, but dogs aren't allowed in the cabin, so plan accordingly. All-in-all a good trip. We would use this campground again, if needed.
Jul 10, 2024 · Douglas Donahue - BateauWonderful location, extremely clean. We rented a “medium cabin” as that has a full bathroom and it was fantastic. Local to the Sterling Ren Fair and Fair Haven beach. Staff had firewood and ice on hand which was extremely convenient.
Jul 15, 2024 · Ryan MillerWhether it is your first time owning an RV or a seasoned camper then Sterling Creek Campgrounds is the perfect destination! Deb is so friendly and accommodating! Your neighbors are fun and friendly but respectful of quiet time and your personal space. Sterling Creek Campgrounds is HOME!
Jun 04, 2023 · Wendy AcevedoThe campground is very nice and spacious. The bathroom and shower facilities are clean and spacious. The bigger shower went out of order mid shower one time but that's about it. Lol. The showers are run by quarters at 2 minutes per quarter. And occasionally you will see a small spider in the stall. The water source is well waterand gets pretty hot. It's very quiet and nice during the end of summer into fall. There is a huge park in the middle of camp for kids! Brlest to bring or cut your own wood. But it's available for purchase and delivery to your site. Sterling stage and the Renaissance Fair are close by
