Early morning walks at Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay were very lovely. There is a lake and a couple of ponds with water fountains that were nice, and added an ambiance to the walks. You are able to receive your Amazon packages there, which is always a plus when you spend several months out on the road. Little to no cell service. We were lucky to get a good spot to utilize our Starlink, so hubby could work and the kid could do school. The staff were polite and professional. The problem that we had with staff, is that they won't do anything about the excessive weekend noise, particularly if it's before 11:00PM. (Quite hours start at 11:00PM). Our first night in the park was a Saturday night, and the park had a live "musical performance," from 7:00-10:30PM. I put the musical performance in quotes, as it was just a bunch of noise, that echoed through the park and made it impossible to sleep before the noise was over. The following Friday night, there was a site/s? that was blasting music, from late afternoon until around 10:15PM. Then, there were golf carts driving around, blasting music and honking their horns. They were laughing and carrying on, without a care or regard for anyone who was trying to sleep! One of the golf cart horns sounds like a rooster crowing and the other one sounds like the 'Dukes of Hazard' car horn. I complained to the staff the following afternoon, when I got back from running errands all morning. They were willing to listen to my complaints, but acted like their hands are tied in this situation and they really didn't care. I mean, my family can't be the only ones that are in bed by 8:30PM and asleep well before 11:00PM, no matter what night of the week it is? We have never experienced noise like this at any campground/rv park we have stayed at over the last several years. Would this not be considered bad campground etiquette, such as walking through another camper's site? In the apartment industry, it was considered disturbing another person's quiet enjoyment, no matter if it was in the middle of the day or night and would not be tolerated; just something for the owners to consider. - J M

Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay Introduce

For local users in Virginia and surrounding areas seeking a "camping near me" experience with waterfront features, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay, located at 12014 Trails Ln, Gloucester, VA 23061, offers a setting near the Chesapeake Bay with internal lakes and ponds. Gloucester County, situated in eastern Virginia, boasts a coastal environment with proximity to the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, suggesting potential for water-related activities and scenic views within or near the campground.

According to customer reviews, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay offers a visually appealing environment, particularly for early morning walks. The presence of a lake and a couple of ponds, enhanced with water fountains, contributes to a pleasant ambiance and provides opportunities for leisurely strolls and enjoying the waterfront scenery. This suggests that the campground has taken some measures to create an aesthetically pleasing environment with water features.

In terms of services and features, one notable convenience mentioned is the ability to receive Amazon packages at the campground. This can be a significant advantage for campers, especially those on extended trips, allowing them to receive necessary supplies and goods without disrupting their stay. However, it's important to note that cell service is reported as "little to no," which could be a consideration for those who rely heavily on mobile communication. Some campers have found solutions by securing a good spot for Starlink internet access, enabling them to work remotely and children to participate in online schooling, indicating that while cellular service is poor, alternative satellite internet options may be viable in certain locations within the park.

The reviews also highlight aspects that potential local users should be aware of, particularly concerning noise levels and rule enforcement. While the staff is described as "polite and professional," there are significant concerns raised about excessive weekend noise. One reviewer detailed experiencing a live "musical performance" on a Saturday night that they found disruptive and made it impossible to sleep before its conclusion at 10:30 PM, despite quiet hours supposedly starting at 11:00 PM. Another weekend night involved loud music blasting from a site until 10:15 PM, followed by golf carts driving around, with occupants blasting music and honking horns late into the evening, showing a lack of consideration for other campers trying to sleep.

Complaints to the staff about the noise issues reportedly resulted in them being willing to listen but acting as if their hands were tied and not effectively addressing the disturbances. This lack of enforcement of quiet hours and general campground etiquette is a recurring theme in the reviews, with one reviewer questioning if blasting music late at night and driving around noisily is not considered a disturbance to others' quiet enjoyment, similar to walking through another camper's site.

Another concerning review paints a picture of a "party party party" atmosphere with "alochole use day and night." This reviewer suggests that the campground might be more suited for those wanting to socialize with individuals who are drinking frequently and that it may not be ideal for families. They also claim that annual residents have the best sites, while other sites can be uneven and muddy when it rains, indicating potential disparities in site quality within the campground.

Furthermore, this reviewer alleges a lack of enforcement of rules regarding large dogs not being kept on leads, unsupervised children, speeding golf carts, and the lack of fences around annual sites. They also mention "many large potholes in roads" and inconsistent functioning of the water, electricity, and sewage systems. Finally, they describe the management and rangers as "grumpy and less than helpful," which contrasts with the other reviewer's description of polite and professional staff, suggesting potential inconsistencies in staff attitude or perhaps different interactions based on the nature of the complaint.

Given these detailed reviews, local users considering Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay for their "camping near me" experience should weigh the potential benefits of the waterfront environment and package delivery against the reported issues with weekend noise, potential lack of rule enforcement, varying site conditions, and concerns about management responsiveness. The campground appears to have a segment of long-term or annual residents who may have preferential treatment or site locations.

As there is no specific promotional information provided, potential local users should consider the information gleaned from the reviews as an objective assessment of what to expect. The allure of a location near the Chesapeake Bay with internal water features might be strong, but it is crucial to be aware of the potential for noise disturbances, especially on weekends, and the reported inconsistencies in site quality and utility reliability.

For local users who value peace and quiet, especially during evening hours, and expect campground rules to be consistently enforced, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay may not be the ideal choice based on the experiences shared by previous visitors. However, for those who are less sensitive to noise, appreciate waterfront views, and need the convenience of package delivery, it might still be a viable option, especially if they can secure a well-located site with good Starlink reception if cellular service is a concern.

Before making a decision, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay directly at (804) 693-6951 or +1 804-693-6951 to inquire about current policies regarding noise, rule enforcement, site availability and conditions, and the reliability of utilities. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the reviews will be essential to determine if this "camping near me" option aligns with their expectations for a pleasant and peaceful outdoor experience. It would also be wise to inquire about any recent changes in management or policies that might address the issues raised in the older reviews.
