Timbuktu Campground Introduce
Hello, local outdoor enthusiasts! Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Eminence, Missouri area? Let's explore Timbuktu Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Eminence, MO 65466, USA. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers new and well-maintained facilities, making it a potentially excellent base camp for exploring the natural beauty of the region.
The Environment of Timbuktu Campground:
According to a recent review from April 2025, Timbuktu Campground is described as "shiny and open," which might appeal to some campers while being less attractive to those seeking a more deeply wooded experience. The reviewer noted that there are no trees within the campground itself, and the trees between the camp and Sinking Creek are too dense to offer a view of the creek. This suggests an environment that is more about open spaces and functionality rather than a secluded, forest immersion within the camping area itself.
However, this openness has its advantages. The same reviewer suggests that Timbuktu Campground would make a "great base camp" for exploring the many attractions in the surrounding area. This implies that while the campground itself might not be a destination for extended relaxation within the camp, its location provides convenient access to the natural wonders and activities that Eminence and the surrounding Ozark region have to offer, such as hiking and exploring nearby parks.
Another reviewer who stayed for two weeks in November highlighted the "peace and quiet" of the campground, suggesting a tranquil atmosphere, especially during the off-season. They also mentioned visits from wild horses, adding a unique element to the environment.
Overall, the environment of Timbuktu Campground seems to be characterized by its newness, openness, and peacefulness, making it a comfortable and convenient spot to set up camp while focusing on exploring the broader natural attractions of the area.
Services and Amenities Offered:
The reviews provide valuable insights into the services and amenities at Timbuktu Campground. One reviewer specifically mentioned needing a shower after primitive camping and found the facilities to be new and well-kept. This indicates the presence of clean and functional shower facilities, although one suggestion was the addition of hooks in the shower room for hanging clothes.
A significant bonus highlighted by a long-term visitor was the availability of laundry facilities located in the lodge. The cost was noted as reasonable ($2.50 for washing and $1.50 for drying), making it a convenient option for longer stays or those needing to freshen up after outdoor activities.
The campsites themselves are described as "generously sized and well spaced," offering campers ample room and a sense of privacy between sites. The fact that "everything works" and is "clean" underscores the quality and maintenance of the campground's infrastructure.
While not explicitly stated, the presence of a camp host who was described as "the nicest person" suggests on-site management and assistance for campers.
In summary, the services at Timbuktu Campground include:
- Clean and well-maintained shower facilities.
- Affordable and clean laundry facilities in the lodge.
- Generously sized and well-spaced campsites.
- Potentially, a helpful camp host on-site.
The lack of trees within the camping area might be seen as a service consideration for those preferring shade, but the overall impression is of a well-equipped and functional campground.

Timbuktu Campground Reviews
April 2025,I stopped here as I needed a shower after several days of roughing it at Forest Service camps. This is to shiny and open for my taste. It would make a great base camp, to explore the many things in the area. I personally would not view it as a destination to spend time in camp.Everything is new and well kept, the sites are generously sized and well spaced. There are no trees, in the camp, and the trees between the camp and Sinking creek are to dense to enjoy a view of the creek. As a shiny new, and open campground, it is 5 stars, everything works, is clean and the prices are fair. The only thing missing is hooks in the shower room to hang your dry clothes on.
Apr 25, 2025 · James JenkinsStayed here for two weeks and absolutely loved the peace and quiet here (November) Wild horses come visit. Camp host was the nicest person. Being able to use the laundry in the lodge is such a bonus and it’s clean and cheap $2.50 washing and $1.50 for a your drying. Loved the hikes in the park. Will be back in the summer for sure
Nov 24, 2024 · Marcelle AlvernazDid an overnight tent camp that was supposed to be an entire weekend so the photos are based off roughly 24 hours or less in the area. I truly hope to get back down there but it's quite the drive from Kansas City, nonetheless the scenery is spectacular and very well maintained. Most of the pictures are from the water behind the hotel as I walked roughly a mile both ways looking for fish but more so just exploring. Crystal clear water and at a few other areas we stopped at were drop spots for canoe and/or raft floats which i regret not doing. If you get a chance, I would go explore and be prepared, as much as one can, to a LOT of mosquitoes but such is nature.
Oct 21, 2023 · John GronerOne of the nicest campgrounds we have been to. Especially for a state park. Paved parking pads. Full-hookup sites. Hiking trails. Close to many amenities & historic venues. Lots to see & do. Wild horses visit every morning around 6-6:30 am. Restaurant, playground, bathhouse, canoe/kayak rentals, walk up to Sinking Creek, & bluff views. Peaceful, quiet, & relaxing location. Modern & updated features. We loved our stay. ♥️
Dec 01, 2021 · Berteena GThe campground is every well kept. The pads are level with plenty of grass to play. The store at the lodge has ice, drinks, and other items you might have forgotten or lost on the river. I noticed that one of the local raft/canoeing companies picked up people from the campgrounds. The only con is that it is so new (est. 2016) that the trees are still small at the camp sites. There is no cellphone service but they do have wifi. This is such a beautiful area. Family friendly. Rivers and hiking everywhere you turn.
