Wapsipinicon State Park Campground Introduce
For those in Iowa searching for "camping near me," Wapsipinicon State Park Campground, located at 21309 Co Rd E34, Anamosa, IA 52205, USA, offers a camping experience within the natural beauty of Wapsipinicon State Park. State parks in Iowa are often known for their scenic landscapes and opportunities for outdoor recreation. However, recent customer reviews highlight some important aspects that potential visitors should consider when planning their stay at this campground.
Wapsipinicon State Park itself is likely to offer a diverse natural environment. Typically, state parks feature a range of landscapes, which could include wooded areas providing shade, open spaces for recreation, and potentially access to the Wapsipinicon River, from which the park takes its name. This could mean opportunities for activities such as hiking along trails, fishing in the river, and enjoying the natural scenery. State parks often aim to preserve natural habitats, so visitors might expect to encounter local flora and fauna. The tranquility of a state park setting is usually a key attraction for campers seeking an escape into nature. However, one reviewer mentioned an issue with a large number of stray cats swarming campsites, particularly when food is present or being prepared. This suggests that while the natural environment of the park might be appealing, the presence of a significant stray animal population could impact the camping experience.
Information regarding the specific services offered at Wapsipinicon State Park Campground can be partially gleaned from the user reviews, although a comprehensive list is not provided. One reviewer mentioned that the "bathrooms need updated," indicating the presence of restroom facilities, but also suggesting that their condition might be a point of concern for some visitors. Another camper noted the inconvenience of having "one dumpster for the whole place" and expressed a desire for "some trash cans near the camp sites." This implies that while waste disposal is available, the distribution of trash receptacles might not be optimal for camper convenience. Typically, state park campgrounds offer basic amenities such as designated campsites for tents and RVs, potentially with fire rings and picnic tables. Access to potable water is usually provided, and shower facilities might be available, although the review suggests the overall condition of the bathrooms could be improved. To get a complete understanding of the services offered, including the availability and type of RV hookups, the presence and condition of shower facilities, and any other amenities such as picnic shelters or playgrounds, it is advisable to consult the official Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website or contact the park directly.
Based on the limited information from the reviews, some features and potential drawbacks can be identified. The location within Wapsipinicon State Park itself is a primary feature, offering access to the park's natural attractions and recreational opportunities. However, the reported issue with a large number of stray cats that "swarm your campsite like flies" when food is present is a significant feature that potential visitors need to be aware of. This could impact the enjoyment of outdoor meals and require extra precautions for food storage and waste disposal. Another notable point from a review is the early morning noise from a leaf blower at the adjacent golf course, which one camper found amusing but acknowledged could be disruptive for tent campers nearby. This suggests that proximity to other park facilities might lead to noise concerns at certain times. The need for updated bathrooms and the limited number of trash receptacles near campsites are also features, albeit negative ones, that could affect the overall camping experience. To ascertain any positive unique features, such as specific trail access from the campground, scenic views, or unique natural formations within the park, further research beyond the provided reviews would be necessary.
The provided information does not include any details about promotional offers or special rates for Wapsipinicon State Park Campground. Camping fees at Iowa state parks are typically set by the Iowa DNR and can vary based on the type of campsite (e.g., primitive, electric hookup) and the season. Discounts might be available for seniors or for longer stays, but this would need to be verified through the official Iowa DNR website or by contacting the park directly. It is advisable to check the official sources for the most up-to-date information on camping fees, reservation procedures, and any potential discounts or special offers that might be available.
In conclusion, Wapsipinicon State Park Campground in Anamosa, IA, offers a camping experience within a potentially scenic state park environment. However, based on recent user reviews, there are important considerations for potential visitors. The significant presence of stray cats that actively seek food at campsites is a notable issue that could impact the camping experience. Additionally, the condition of the bathrooms has been mentioned as needing updates, and the limited availability of trash cans near campsites could be an inconvenience. While the state park setting likely offers opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoying nature, these negative aspects should be taken into account. For local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Wapsipinicon State Park Campground, it is strongly recommended to consult the official Iowa DNR website for detailed information about the campground's amenities, rules, and any advisories regarding wildlife or park conditions. Additionally, checking for more recent reviews on other platforms might provide a broader perspective on the current state of the campground and help in making an informed decision.

Wapsipinicon State Park Campground Reviews
Over run with stray cats. They are everywhere. They swarm your campsite like flies the minute you have food out or are cooking. Also - the fellow running the leaf blower at 05:00 at the golf course was classic! I get up early so no problem for me. However, for the tent campers near there that must have been swell to wake up to.
