Desert Trails RV Park Introduce
Are you currently searching for "RV parks near me" in the Tucson, Arizona area? Desert Trails RV Park, located at 3551 S San Joaquin Rd, Tucson, AZ 85735, USA, presents a complex picture based on recent customer reviews. While one reviewer raves about an "amazing experience," others express significant dissatisfaction with the management and the condition of the facilities. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Desert Trails RV Park based on the available online feedback, allowing local users to make an informed decision.
One enthusiastic reviewer recounted a highly positive stay at Desert Trails RV Park. From arrival to departure, they praised the friendly staff, specifically mentioning Jesse, the Park Manager, as "very welcoming, helpful, and always greets everyone with a smile." The check-in process was described as "smooth," and the site was noted as "spacious, well-maintained with easy hookups." This positive experience extended to the park's overall cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and beautiful maintenance. The reviewer also highlighted the clean amenities, including restrooms, showers, and a "well-kept laundry facility." A strong Wi-Fi signal at their site was considered a significant bonus. For pet owners, the presence of a "great dog park" was a notable advantage, and the availability of nearby walking trails added to the appeal for outdoor enthusiasts. The sense of community was also a highlight, with the reviewer noting the friendliness of everyone and the presence of "fun activities to join." Furthermore, the location was deemed "perfect," offering great access to local attractions, restaurants, and scenic views. Based on this experience, the reviewer highly recommended Desert Trails and expressed a definite intention to return.
However, this glowing review stands in stark contrast to the experiences shared by other visitors. One critical review stated that "The husband and wife running desert trails are in way over their head and it shows." This concise but damning statement suggests significant issues with the park's management and operation.
Expanding on these management concerns, another reviewer painted a bleak picture of the park's facilities and the attitude of the owners. They claimed that "The facilities are not at all as advertised" and described everything as "neglected, derelict and in disrepair." A particularly alarming detail was the information relayed by residents that "the pool is always closed due to bacterial infestation." This raises serious questions about the safety and upkeep of the advertised amenities. The reviewer also criticized the size of the spaces as "laughably small for the price compared to every other place," suggesting poor value for money. Accessibility was another issue, with the reviewer noting that "traffic is BAD bad," potentially making it inconvenient to leave and return to the park. Finally, this reviewer characterized the owners as "very RUDE, miserable people," indicating a negative interaction with the park's leadership.
Adding to this critical perspective, another reviewer offered a somewhat cynical analysis of the situation, stating that "Desert trails has all the trappings of a married couple jumping on board a 'fun little project' before realizing there's actually going to be work to do and now they're trapped in their terrible investment." This suggests a lack of experience or commitment on the part of the owners, potentially contributing to the issues highlighted in the other negative review.
For local users searching for "RV parks near me," Desert Trails RV Park presents a dilemma. The overwhelmingly positive experience of one reviewer, praising the friendly staff, well-maintained facilities, strong Wi-Fi, pet-friendly amenities, sense of community, and convenient location, is certainly appealing. This review suggests that Desert Trails could be an excellent choice for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Tucson.
However, the multiple negative reviews paint a drastically different picture. The allegations of neglected and derelict facilities, a perpetually closed pool due to bacterial issues, small and overpriced spaces, bad traffic, and rude owners are serious concerns that potential guests cannot afford to ignore. These reviews suggest a park that is poorly managed, offers substandard amenities, and may provide a negative overall experience.
The stark contrast between these experiences could be attributed to various factors, such as changes in management or park conditions over time, or simply differing expectations and experiences of individual guests. However, the consistency of the negative reviews in highlighting issues with management and facility maintenance is noteworthy.
For local users considering Desert Trails RV Park based on the positive review, it is strongly recommended to exercise caution and seek further information. Contacting the park directly to inquire about the current status of the amenities, particularly the pool, and to get a clear understanding of the site sizes and pricing would be prudent. Reading more recent reviews, if available, could also provide a more up-to-date perspective on the park's condition and management.
Given the serious allegations of neglect and rudeness from other reviewers, a personal visit to Desert Trails RV Park might be the most effective way to assess its current state. Observing the cleanliness and condition of the facilities, the size of the RV spaces, and the general atmosphere of the park could help potential guests determine whether it aligns with their expectations and standards. If possible, speaking with current residents could also provide valuable insights into the day-to-day living experience and the responsiveness of the management.
In conclusion, Desert Trails RV Park in Tucson has received strongly contrasting reviews. While one guest reported an exceptional experience with friendly staff, well-maintained facilities, and a great sense of community, others described neglected amenities, small spaces, bad traffic, and rude owners. For local users searching for "RV parks near me," it is crucial to weigh these differing perspectives carefully and conduct thorough due diligence before making a reservation. Contacting the park directly and potentially visiting in person are highly recommended to ascertain the current conditions and management practices at Desert Trails RV Park.

Apr 28, 2025 · Rely KuesI’m giving Desert Trails 5 stars for the following reasons; location to hiking and biking trails right out from the park with gorgeous desert & cactus, beautiful surrounding mountains, a feeling of remoteness from traffic and busy roads (yes, San Joaquin Road can be noisy so getting a site farther from there is necessary in my opinion), and very dog friendly. But the number 1 reason we keep coming back every winter is the community! These are healthy, active, laid back, welcoming people who make this feel like our 2nd home. Jesse, the manager, does a great job of trying to accommodate everyone. It is an aging park with quirks and issues from time to time but the pluses fully negate the minuses in our opinion. If you like the feeling of being in a park with access to amazing trail systems and wonderful people, this is your place. If you prefer sitting in your RV in a fancy fully paved park, this probably isn’t your style.
Mar 13, 2025 · Barbara SwansenMy husband and I planned a trip to see some National Parks and enjoy the Southwest of AZ and NM. After staying in some pretty desolate RV parks, we found Dexter Trails to be full of native plants and charm. We were lucky to be on the outer edge where the hiking trails and views of the mountains were great! If you call for reservations, just let the park staff what you are looking for as far as slide outs. Because we booked so close to our arrival, there were no drive through spaces left. The RVs are pretty packed in, but we had plenty of space with a view! This park is close to Saguaro Nat'l Park and the fabulous Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. We visited in late March just before the weather got hot. We'v been to some fabulous RV parks (in the Redwoods), but this park was the best park on our trip!!!!
Mar 24, 2025 · Jeanette HillYour awning will hit your neighbors RV. Yes, the sites are that small. The pool is broken, and appears to have broken quite some time ago. If you still want to stay here, stay as far from the road as you can. The road is just beyond noisy and the neighborhood dogs never, never stop. We have a dog, we are dog people, it’s not that. If you’re staying here to visit Tucson, just know the traffic on this end of town is ridiculous. I’m not usually one to complain about a park, but this place oversells itself and just haves a weird vibe. I will not be staying here again and would not recommend any else does until they put some money into the place.
