As a full-timer for 2 years, I'm pretty in tune with what constitutes good CG customer service. The manager of this CG doesn't have it. I tried making reservations four months out, and he didn't return phone calls. He finally replied to an email, telling me I had to submit a form to make the reservation. OK, no problem. I found the form on the website and emailed it to him. Then he emails me back and tells me that one is outdated, and I have to resubmit with the attached one. Guess he couldn't be bothered to post the correct one. So I resubmit and finally get a site.On arrival day, my wife calls him to reconfirm our site number. He tells her we can only stay two nights, then have to move to another site. No explanation, no compensation for the hassle, and no prior notification that we needed to change sites. The next day I go to the MWR office to discuss this with him. He's not there (has 4 jobs on base and apparently CG is lowest priority), so I call him. Turns out he's making me move just so another person can get into our site on our last night. I tell him that's not right, and I want a free night if I have to move. After checking with his supervisior, presto, he emails me back saying that I can stay all three nights in the same site. I guess the lesson for others is to trust but verify at this campground! As for the CG itself, it's a bit overpriced at $30/night without sewer hookups. The entrance is unmarked and the site numbers are hard to read. There are six fairly spaced out sites in total, of which, two are pull through. All sites are grass/gravel mix with 50A electric and water. The dump station is about 100 yards away, in between the RV storage lots. You can drive there without getting on the main road. No bathroom or bath house. There is no PX, commissary or gas station on the base. It's a very quiet base of mostly civilian personnel, so it's pretty quiet all the time. - Becky Burtis

Richmond Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation RV Camp Introduce

If you are searching for "RV parks near me" in the Richmond, Virginia area, the Richmond Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) RV Camp, located on G Rd, Richmond, VA 23237, USA, offers a unique option due to its affiliation with a military installation. You can contact them at (804) 279-1094 or +1 804-279-1094. Based on the available customer reviews, this RV camp presents a mixed experience with a quiet environment and convenient location being key positives, while customer service and amenities appear to be areas of concern.

One full-time RV traveler with two years of experience provides a detailed account of their reservation and stay. They highlight significant issues with the campground manager's customer service, noting a lack of returned phone calls when attempting to make a reservation four months in advance. Communication was eventually established via email, requiring the submission of a form. This process was further complicated by the manager initially providing an outdated form, necessitating a resubmission. Despite these initial hurdles, the reviewer did eventually secure a site.

Upon arrival, the reviewer's wife was informed that their stay would be limited to two nights, requiring a move to another site without prior notification or explanation. The reviewer then contacted the MWR office and the manager, discovering that the move was solely to accommodate another guest on their last night. After advocating for a free night due to the inconvenience, the manager, after consulting with a supervisor, ultimately allowed the reviewer to stay in the same site for all three nights. This experience underscores the importance of verifying all arrangements at this campground.

Regarding the campground itself, the reviewer notes that it is "a bit overpriced at $30/night" considering the lack of sewer hookups. The entrance is described as "unmarked," and the site numbers are "hard to read," potentially causing confusion upon arrival. The campground is small, featuring only six fairly spaced-out sites, two of which are pull-through. All sites offer a grass/gravel mix surface along with 50A electric and water hookups. A dump station is located approximately 100 yards away, situated between RV storage lots and accessible without needing to use the main road. Notably, the campground does not have a bathroom or bathhouse.

The reviewer also points out the absence of typical amenities found on larger military bases, such as a PX (Post Exchange), commissary (grocery store), or gas station. The base is characterized as "very quiet" with a predominantly civilian personnel presence, contributing to an overall peaceful atmosphere.

In contrast, another reviewer highlights the "great location" for visiting family in Richmond, specifically mentioning its proximity (about 8 miles) to their daughter, son-in-law, and newborn granddaughter's apartment. This allowed them to stay in their RV, minimizing disruption to the new family's home life. They also noted "plenty of pull-thru room" for a large Class A RV, trailer, and SUV. This reviewer echoed the sentiment of a "super quiet post" and mentioned unique features such as numerous warehouses, a collection of military aviation artifacts displayed outdoors, and a resident herd of elk due to the base's history.

Considering the perspective of someone searching for "RV parks near me," the Richmond Family MWR RV Camp offers a quiet and potentially convenient location, particularly for those with ties to the Richmond area or visiting the nearby military installation (Defense Supply Center Richmond/DDRV). The availability of 50A electric and water hookups, along with a dump station, caters to basic RV needs. The pull-through sites are a definite advantage for larger rigs.

However, potential guests must weigh these benefits against the reported issues with customer service and the lack of essential amenities like sewer hookups and restrooms/showers. The pricing of $30/night without full hookups might be a deterrent for some, especially when compared to private RV parks offering more comprehensive facilities.

The unique environment of a quiet military base with historical artifacts and even a herd of elk could be an interesting draw for some visitors seeking a different kind of camping experience. The emphasis on a peaceful atmosphere might appeal to those looking for a respite from busier commercial campgrounds.

For those considering a stay at the Richmond Family MWR RV Camp, it is crucial to be prepared for the limited amenities and to exercise caution and diligence when making reservations and confirming details with the management. While the location and quiet setting have their merits, the reported customer service issues and the lack of certain facilities should be taken into account.

In conclusion, the Richmond Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation RV Camp offers a quiet stay in a convenient location near Richmond, VA, particularly for those visiting family or the nearby military base. It provides basic RV hookups and spacious pull-through sites. However, potential guests should be aware of reported customer service challenges, the lack of sewer and restroom/shower facilities, and the relatively higher price point for the limited amenities offered. The unique environment of the military base, with its historical aspects and wildlife, might be an added attraction for some seeking "RV parks near me" with a difference.
