Blesener Creek Camp

Superior Hiking Trail, Finland, MN 55603, USA

4.0
Nice campsite between two branches of a creek, so wonderful sounds to sleep to with the flowing water. There is a nice fire ring and bench area. Good areas for a couple of tents but even better for hammocks. The pit toilet isn't too far away on a separate trail (bring your own TP). One thing that would make it nicer would be a bear cable to throw your food bag over, as we had a bit of a time finding suitable trees for that. - Brian Dall

Blesener Creek Camp Introduce

Are you seeking a tranquil and scenic camping experience along the renowned Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota? Within the "camping near me" category, we are pleased to introduce you to Blesener Creek Camp, situated off the Superior Hiking Trail in Finland, MN 55603, USA. Based on recent customer reviews, this campsite offers a unique and peaceful environment nestled between two branches of a creek, making it an excellent choice for local users looking for a serene natural retreat.

The environment of Blesener Creek Camp is a significant draw, with its location "between two branches of a creek." This idyllic setting provides the wonderful sound of flowing water, creating a soothing and relaxing atmosphere perfect for sleeping and unwinding in nature. The presence of the creek also suggests a potentially lush and vibrant surrounding ecosystem, with the possibility of attracting local wildlife and offering picturesque views. For local users who appreciate the calming sounds of nature and a creekside ambiance, Blesener Creek Camp offers a unique auditory and visual experience.

The campsite itself is equipped with a "nice fire ring and bench area," indicating that it provides a designated space for campfires (subject to regulations) and a comfortable seating area for enjoying the warmth and ambiance of the fire. This setup enhances the traditional camping experience, offering a focal point for cooking, socializing, and relaxing in the evening.

While the campsite can accommodate a couple of tents, it is noted as being "even better for hammocks." This suggests that the surrounding trees are well-suited for hammock camping, providing ideal suspension points. For local users who prefer the comfort and unique perspective of sleeping in a hammock, Blesener Creek Camp appears to be a particularly appealing option.

In terms of facilities, Blesener Creek Camp offers a "pit toilet" that is "not too far away on a separate trail." This provides a basic and necessary sanitation amenity while maintaining a degree of separation from the main campsite. However, it is important to note the reviewer's reminder to "bring your own TP" (toilet paper), indicating that this is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out style of campsite where essential supplies are not provided.

One suggestion for improvement from a reviewer is the addition of a "bear cable to throw your food bag over." This is a crucial consideration for camping in bear country, as it allows campers to safely store their food away from bears and other wildlife. The reviewer mentioned having "a bit of a time finding suitable trees for that," suggesting that while hanging food is possible, dedicated bear cables would enhance safety and convenience. Local users planning to camp here should be mindful of proper food storage techniques and bring appropriate gear, such as long ropes and waterproof bags, to hang their food safely.

Another reviewer describes Blesener Creek Camp as "one of the best located campsites on the SHT (Superior Hiking Trail)." This highlights its prime location along this renowned trail, offering easy access for hikers and backpackers. The fact that it's considered one of the best suggests it might offer particularly scenic views or a unique camping experience compared to other sites along the trail. However, it is also noted that the campsite "isn't very big, so plan accordingly." This implies that the number of tent or hammock spots is limited, and it might be best suited for smaller groups or individuals. Local users planning to camp here should be aware of its size limitations, especially if traveling with a larger party.

As a trailside campsite on the Superior Hiking Trail, Blesener Creek Camp likely offers a more primitive and backcountry camping experience. Services and amenities beyond the fire ring and pit toilet are likely minimal or non-existent. Campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient, bringing all necessary gear, including shelter, sleeping equipment, cooking supplies, water purification methods, and navigation tools. It is essential to adhere to Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the natural beauty of the area for future visitors.

Promotional information is not provided in the reviews. As a campsite along the Superior Hiking Trail, any fees or regulations would typically be managed by the Superior Hiking Trail Association or the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Local users should consult their official websites for information on required permits, camping regulations, and any applicable fees for using campsites along the SHT.

In conclusion, Blesener Creek Camp offers a serene and picturesque camping experience for those exploring the Superior Hiking Trail. Its location between two branches of a creek provides soothing water sounds and a unique ambiance, making it particularly appealing for hammock camping. The campsite offers a fire ring and bench area, and a pit toilet is located nearby. However, it is a smaller site, so planning accordingly is advised. Campers should also be prepared for potential challenges in hanging food for bear safety and bring their own toilet paper. For local users seeking a tranquil and nature-immersive "camping near me" experience along the SHT, Blesener Creek Camp is a highly recommended option. Remember to check for any required permits and regulations from the SHT Association or the DNR before your trip to ensure a safe and enjoyable time.
