Brown Creek Campground Introduce
For local adventurers in Washington seeking a refreshing "camping near me" experience, Brown Creek Campground, situated near the charming town of Hoodsport, offers a delightful option within the Olympic National Forest. Located at NF-2340, Hoodsport, WA 98548, USA, this Forest Service campground provides a blend of natural beauty and basic amenities for a comfortable outdoor getaway. For general inquiries, you can reach them at (360) 765-2200 or +1 360-765-2200.
Based on the experiences shared by fellow campers, Brown Creek Campground presents a "nice little FS campground" with a focus on its natural surroundings. One of the key features is the presence of water available at a well in the upper campsite area. This provides a convenient water source for campers in that section. Additionally, the campground is equipped with "vault toilets" in all three camping areas, offering a basic but essential amenity for maintaining hygiene during your stay.
A significant environmental highlight of Brown Creek Campground is its access to a "great little swimming hole down along the river bend in the other side of Brown's Creek." This natural swimming spot is particularly appealing during warmer months, with one visitor noting that it was "very warm for river water in July." This suggests that the creek offers a refreshing and enjoyable way to cool off during the summer, making it a fantastic feature for families and individuals looking to relax by the water.
The atmosphere of Brown Creek Campground can vary depending on the time of year. One camper who visited both in July and in March four years prior noted a significant difference. During the March visit, when the "upper campground was closed," they experienced a "nice quiet vibe." This indicates that during the off-season or when certain sections are closed, the campground can offer a more tranquil and secluded experience for those seeking peace and quiet in nature.
For those planning group outings, Brown Creek Campground seems to be a suitable choice. One group of "work mates" had a "fun overnighter" and were fortunate enough to secure a site directly "on the River." This highlights the desirability of the riverfront campsites, offering scenic views and easy access to the water. It's important to note that the number of sites open can vary seasonally. During their visit, only "6 sites" were open. Despite this limited availability, even on a Sunday morning, they found only one site remaining for their group of five, indicating that the campground can be quite popular, especially during peak seasons or weekends.
Regarding the campsites themselves, the group of five found "ample space" for their needs, suggesting that the individual sites are reasonably sized. They also described the area as "nice," indicating an appealing natural setting. The condition of the facilities was also noted, with the "privy" being described as "clean and well supplied." The humorous mention of "the best John Wayne tp you can buy" adds a touch of local color and suggests that the campground management pays attention to even the small details of visitor comfort.
For those planning to have campfires, it's advisable to bring your own firewood, as one visitor mentioned, "We brought wood which was a good idea." They also noted the presence of "lots of dry fall down," and while they brought a chainsaw which "came in handy," it's crucial to adhere to all Forest Service regulations regarding firewood collection and chainsaw use. It's generally recommended to purchase firewood locally to prevent the spread of invasive species and to check current fire restrictions before your trip.
In summary, Brown Creek Campground near Hoodsport, WA, offers a pleasant "camping near me" experience with key features like a swimming hole in Brown's Creek, water availability at the upper site well, and vault toilets in all areas. The atmosphere can range from potentially busy during peak season with limited site availability to quiet and peaceful during the off-season or in closed sections. Riverfront campsites are particularly desirable. Campers should come prepared with their own firewood and be aware of potential seasonal closures or limited site openings. The clean and well-maintained privy adds to the basic comfort of the campground.
While no specific promotional offers were mentioned in the provided information, the positive reviews and the appealing natural features of Brown Creek Campground serve as a strong recommendation for local campers looking for a Forest Service campground with river access and a swimming hole. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information on site availability, fees (if any), and any current regulations or alerts, it's advisable to contact the Olympic National Forest directly at the provided phone number or visit their official website. Plan your local camping trip to Brown Creek Campground and enjoy the natural beauty of the Hoodsport area!

Aug 13, 2024 · Mike DealFun overnighter with work mates. We lucked out and got a site on the River. This time of year they only have 6 sites open. Even on a Sunday morning, there was only one site open for the 5 of us. Ample space for us, nice area. The privy was clean and well supplied with the best John Wayne tp you can buy☺️ We brought wood which was a good idea, but the chain saw we also brought came in handy, there is lots of dry fall down.
Oct 24, 2022 · Steve MGreat place, lots of beautiful nature, and trails. Only downside to our spot, was the logging trucks in the early hours traveling to and from their pick up spots. Other than that, it was very peaceful, spacious, and not for the type of campers that can't make their own toilet outside.... Nor for the type of campers that don't clean up after themselves. You have to take your trash with you, since there's no dumpster/cans around. (because if the wild life preservation)
Aug 03, 2021 · Jordyn GSimply the best, I was there during those Northern lights with my best friend. Didn't even know it was happening until we walked away from the fire back to our tents. It was "in tents"....
Oct 22, 2024 · Joseph KepnerHere’s an update for Brown Creek Camping and shooting range area. A lot of trees are down right now but it’s accessible. We make a big loop driving through the backroads starting from steelhead bridge, come up by the shooting range area to the right, and down to the camp sites. Just stick to left 😊 that road goes in a big loop.Update 06/2022 it’s all clear 🤙🏽(Note) please take your garbage with you after shooting. We try to pick up the garbage left behind by others when we visit up there. Pack it in, pack it out.
