Lebar Horse Camp Introduce
For local equestrian enthusiasts in Washington State seeking exceptional 'camping near me' opportunities that cater specifically to horseback riding, Lebar Horse Camp, located near Hoodsport, WA 98548, USA, presents itself as a well-regarded option. Situated in a convenient location with access to appealing trails, Lebar Horse Camp provides a range of amenities tailored for both riders and their horses. This introduction aims to detail the environment, services, and features of Lebar Horse Camp, based on available user reviews, to assist local users in planning their next equestrian camping adventure.
Lebar Horse Camp is praised for its accessibility, with one reviewer noting it's an "easy to get into spot." This is a significant advantage, especially when maneuvering trailers and horses. The campground is also reported to be "pretty easy to find using Google maps," which simplifies navigation for first-time visitors. The approach to the camp involves a forest service road that is "mostly paved but turns to gravel for about a mile about half way," indicating that while the majority of the journey is on paved surfaces, a short stretch of gravel road should be expected.
The primary focus of Lebar Horse Camp is clearly on accommodating horses and their riders. The reviews highlight a comprehensive set of amenities at each campsite designed for this purpose. Specifically, it is mentioned that "all of the sites have fire pits, tables, high lines, hitching posts, and flat spots to put up a tent if needed." This ensures that campers have the essentials for a comfortable stay, including a place to have a fire, a table for meals and organization, secure high lines for tethering horses, hitching posts for temporary tie-ups, and suitable ground for pitching tents for those who wish to camp alongside their equine companions. The availability of flat spots for tents also makes the campground accessible to those who may not be exclusively horse campers but are accompanying riders.
The presence of "nice trails" is another significant draw of Lebar Horse Camp. One reviewer mentioned that the area offers "nice trails," suggesting opportunities for enjoyable horseback riding excursions. However, a crucial point is raised regarding the condition of at least one of these trails. A reviewer who conducted a reconnaissance trip mentioned reading a previous year's review stating that the "trail (Skokomish) was blocked by downed trees about 5 miles in with no way around." This information, while from a previous year, serves as a reminder that trail conditions in natural areas can change, and it's advisable to seek current trail information before embarking on longer rides. The reviewer also expressed concern about trail maintenance, noting uncertainty about who would be responsible for clearing any obstructions.
A critical aspect of Lebar Horse Camp that potential visitors must be aware of is the complete absence of on-site water. Both reviews explicitly state, "there is no water, so you need to pack in water" and "NO water in the campground." This necessitates careful planning to bring an adequate supply of water for both human and equine needs. Campers will need to consider drinking water, water for cooking, and water for their horses, making it essential to have appropriate containers and a strategy for transporting sufficient amounts.
Despite the lack of on-site water, there is a potential alternative mentioned. One reviewer noted, "Evidently there is water at a campground close by just before you get to LeBar." While they did not personally verify this, it suggests that a water source might be available at a nearby campground. However, campers should not rely on this without confirming its availability and accessibility. It remains crucial to bring an initial supply of water. The campground does provide a "pit toilet and manure bin," which are essential facilities for responsible camping, especially in an equestrian setting.
Considering the platform category 'camping near me', Lebar Horse Camp offers a specialized experience for local users with horses:
- Equestrian-Focused Amenities: Each site is equipped with fire pits, tables, high lines, and hitching posts.
- Tent Camping Possible: Flat spots are available for pitching tents.
- Access to Nice Trails: Opportunities for horseback riding in the surrounding area.
- Easy to Find: Conveniently located and relatively easy to navigate to using Google Maps.
- Pit Toilet and Manure Bin: Essential facilities for responsible camping.
However, potential visitors must also be aware of the significant limitation:
- No On-Site Water: Campers must pack in all necessary water for themselves and their horses.
- Potential Trail Obstructions: Reports of downed trees on at least one trail (Skokomish) suggest the need to verify current trail conditions.
For local users specifically searching for 'camping near me' that accommodates horses, Lebar Horse Camp provides a valuable option with its tailored amenities and access to trails. The phone number provided, (360) 956-2402 or +1 360-956-2402, can be used to contact the campground or the managing authority (likely the US Forest Service given the mention of a forest service road) to inquire about current trail conditions, water availability at the nearby campground (if any), permit requirements, and any other relevant information for planning a trip.
In conclusion, Lebar Horse Camp near Hoodsport, WA, is a well-equipped campground designed for equestrian camping, offering easy access, essential amenities for horses and riders at each site, and proximity to potentially scenic trails. However, the complete lack of on-site water necessitates careful planning and packing, and potential trail obstructions should be considered. Local users with horses looking for 'camping near me' will find Lebar Horse Camp to be a convenient and thoughtfully designed base for their riding adventures, provided they come prepared with their own water supply and check trail conditions beforehand.

Lebar Horse Camp Reviews
Great camp with easy to get into spot and nice trails. Make sure your horses are in shape if you want to go on the long trail. All of the sites have fire pits, tables, high lines, hitching posts, and flat spots to put up a tent if needed. Only down side is there is no water, so you need to pack in water.
Oct 03, 2023 · amber MurchisonNice horse camp. It was pretty easy to find using Google maps. The forest service road is mostly paved but turns to gravel for about a mile about half way. Sites all have a cable high line and hitching post, picnic table and fire ring. There is also a pit toilet and manure bin but NO water in the campground. Evidently there is water at a campground close by just before you get to LeBar. I did not camp or ride here but was just doing a recon for a trip. Read a review from previous years that said the trail (Skokomish) was blocked by downed trees about 5 miles in with no way around. Too long of a haul for me to come for a short ride. Not sure who if anyone would be there to maintain the trails.
