Buffalo River State Park Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with modern amenities, Buffalo River State Park Campground, located in Glyndon, MN 56547, USA, offers an interesting option. Situated within Buffalo River State Park, this campground provides access to a diverse environment, including the Buffalo River itself, wooded areas offering shade, and the unique Tallgrass prairie. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground boasts well-maintained, modern restroom and shower facilities and convenient proximity to trails and picnic areas. However, it's worth noting that some campers have found certain campsites to be somewhat cramped with limited privacy.
The environment of Buffalo River State Park Campground is characterized by the natural features of the state park itself. Glyndon, Minnesota, is located in the western part of the state, where the landscape transitions from prairie to more wooded areas as you move eastward. Buffalo River State Park encompasses a significant stretch of the Buffalo River, offering opportunities for scenic views, fishing, and potentially canoeing or kayaking, depending on river conditions and park regulations. The presence of mature trees throughout the campground, as noted by a reviewer mentioning it is "well shaded," suggests a comfortable camping experience, particularly during the warmer months, providing respite from the sun.
A significant service highlighted in the customer reviews is the presence of "very nice new updated modern bathrooms/shower building" and "modern restroom/shower facilities." This is a notable amenity that often enhances the overall camping experience, providing clean and well-maintained facilities for personal hygiene. The availability of such modern amenities can be a key factor for many campers when choosing a "camping near me" location.
In terms of features, Buffalo River State Park Campground benefits from its location within the state park. One of the key features mentioned is its "very close" proximity to trails and the picnic area. Buffalo River State Park is known for its network of hiking trails that wind through various habitats, including wooded areas along the river and the expansive Tallgrass prairie. This offers campers the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the park on foot, observing local flora and fauna. The Tallgrass prairie, in particular, is a unique ecosystem that provides a chance to see native grasses and wildflowers, as well as the wildlife that depends on this habitat.
Another feature mentioned is the river itself, which likely offers opportunities for fishing and enjoying the water. While swimming or boating might be permitted, it's essential to check park regulations for specific activities. The river also contributes to the scenic beauty of the park, providing a tranquil backdrop for camping and hiking.
However, one important aspect highlighted in a review is that the campground "looks incredible cramped." The reviewer noted that "most of the sights are right on top of each other with little to no privacy." This is a crucial consideration for campers who value space and seclusion at their campsite. While the shade and other amenities are appreciated, the lack of privacy might be a drawback for some seeking a more immersive and isolated "camping near me" experience.
Despite the potential for cramped campsites, the reviewer did offer a valuable tip, suggesting that "the outer ring has the better camp sites including site 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14." This indicates that some sites within the campground offer more space or a better overall experience compared to others. Local users considering Buffalo River State Park Campground might want to inquire specifically about the availability of these outer ring sites when making reservations.
As a Minnesota State Park campground, reservations are typically managed through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation system. It is highly recommended to book campsites in advance, especially during peak seasons and weekends, as state park campgrounds can be quite popular. Information regarding campsite availability, fees, and specific regulations for Buffalo River State Park Campground can be found on the DNR website. Promotional information might include details about seasonal events within the park, educational programs, or any special offers related to camping or park admission.
For local users looking for "camping near me" in the Glyndon area, Buffalo River State Park Campground offers a location with natural beauty, modern amenities, and access to hiking trails and the Tallgrass prairie. The well-shaded environment and updated facilities are significant positives. However, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of cramped campsites with limited privacy, particularly in the inner areas of the campground. Prioritizing reservations for sites on the outer ring, if available, might mitigate this issue. Overall, Buffalo River State Park Campground provides a convenient and feature-rich option for a local outdoor getaway, with the caveat of potential campsite density.
In conclusion, Buffalo River State Park Campground in Glyndon, MN, presents a "camping near me" opportunity within a scenic state park. Its well-shaded environment, modern restroom and shower facilities, and proximity to hiking trails and the Tallgrass prairie are notable advantages. However, potential campers should be aware of feedback regarding cramped campsites and limited privacy in some areas. Local users are encouraged to explore the Minnesota DNR reservation system and inquire about specific campsite details, particularly those on the outer ring, to make the most of their camping experience at Buffalo River State Park.

Buffalo River State Park Campground Reviews
The campground is well shaded but looks incredible cramped. Most of the sights are right on top of each other with little to no privacy. I am giving it three stars because it does have a very nice new updated modern bathrooms/shower building. Plus it is very close to trails and the picnic area. The outer ring has the better camp sites including site 4,6,8,10,12,14.
Dec 22, 2023 · Wyatt W. PenkeNice campground with modern restroom/shower facilities. There are lots of hiking trains near the river and through the Tallgrass prairie
Jul 19, 2024 · Cynthia GittaStayed Jun 2-3, 2023 in our Class A 40ft (towing pickup for a total of 60ft) on a 50amp electric only site. This is a small but beautiful campground. The sites were back in only and we had minimal difficulty manouevering (laneways are only one way so only one lane wide) without going onto the grass slightly. Lots of trees, which was lovely in the heat, but if you have satellite, you may have difficulty. Park staff were friendly and helpful. We detached the truck and had to park it in an overflow lot not far from our site. Didn't use the washroom facilities but looked newer and well kept. Water source was right across from our site (site 26e). Easy/clean garbage and recycling set up. Nice trails in the woods/along the river. Bugs were horrendous but this is expected and easily managed with spray. Easy access off the highway and a dump station on the way out of the park. Would recommend staying here if you like the atmosphere of more traditional camping vs resort style. Would definitely stay again.
Jul 13, 2023 · Taking the SEAnic routeVery nice campground. VERY impressed with the shower house and bathrooms. They have private shower rooms. Sites were very nice!
Aug 07, 2023 · Heather TheisenAmazed at the open areas, larger then usual camp site's This has to be the cleanest park I've visited ever. Showers and restrooms were clean without the expected order at site's. More then just friendly staff and camp hospitality host. Easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. Hope anyone else that's been there would agree 💯 score.
