Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground

4379 US-89 w, Babb, MT 59411, USA

4.0
The accommodations were basic (as expected) but comfortable, the beds were comfy which is important, facilities seemed to be good, hot, clean shower which was really nice after a day of travel. Four stars for that, and it being in a very convenient location.Unfortunately, the service was horrible, which wrecked the entire experience. I don't know if it was someone else who was covering that day, that may explain why the other reviews here are either amazing or terrible, but I've never had a more rude, and downright petty staff person in all my travels. I've never before given a bad review to a place I've stayed, but this time it was warranted. Will not be returning, which is too bad, since we really liked the place. - A B

Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground Introduce

For local users searching for 'camping near me' with convenient access to Glacier National Park, Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground, located at 4379 US-89 w, Babb, MT 59411, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. Situated on US-89, a primary route to Glacier, this campground offers a potentially strategic location for exploring the park and surrounding areas. However, feedback regarding service quality suggests that prospective visitors should be aware of varying experiences.

The environment of Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground benefits significantly from its proximity to Glacier National Park. While specific details about the immediate surroundings aren't extensively described, being located in Babb, Montana, along a major park access route implies a setting characterized by the natural beauty of the region. Expect mountain views, fresh air, and a sense of being close to the wilderness that Glacier is renowned for. The campground's location on US-89 likely provides relatively easy access to the park's entrance and other nearby attractions or services in Babb.

In terms of accommodations, Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground offers both cabins and campsites. One reviewer who stayed in the basic accommodations found them 'comfortable' and particularly appreciated the 'comfy beds,' which is crucial after a long day of travel or hiking. The availability of cabins provides a more sheltered and potentially warmer option compared to tent camping, which could be appealing during cooler Montana nights or for those seeking a bit more comfort. While the campground is 'not set up for an rv' according to one review, they did accommodate a self-contained RV, indicating a degree of flexibility, though dedicated RV amenities might be limited or absent. Local users with RVs should inquire specifically about site suitability and available hookups before booking.

The facilities at Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground received generally positive feedback in some reviews. One guest noted that the 'facilities seemed to be good' and specifically praised the 'hot, clean shower,' which is a significant amenity for many travelers, especially after outdoor activities. Another reviewer also found the 'bathrooms and shower clean and nice.' This suggests that while the accommodations might be basic, the essential facilities for hygiene are well-maintained. The presence of a 'deck' that served as a 'nice gathering place to socialize with the other campers' is also highlighted as a positive feature, fostering a sense of community among visitors, particularly hikers eager to share trail experiences and ratings.

However, a significant point of concern raised in one review is the 'horrible service,' which the guest felt 'wrecked the entire experience.' This reviewer described the staff person encountered as 'rude' and 'downright petty,' leading to a decision not to return despite liking the location itself. The reviewer also speculated that this negative experience might have been an isolated incident with a substitute staff member, potentially explaining the stark contrast with other reviews that describe 'very nice' hosts. This inconsistency in service feedback is crucial for local users to consider. It suggests that while some guests have had positive interactions, there is a risk of encountering less satisfactory service.

Despite the service issue reported by one guest, another reviewer described the hosts as 'very nice,' indicating that positive interactions are also a possibility. This discrepancy underscores the importance of considering all feedback when evaluating the campground. It's possible that service quality can vary, or that different guests have different expectations or experiences.

In terms of promotional information, the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews include the convenient location near Glacier National Park, the comfortable beds in the basic accommodations, the clean and nice shower and bathrooms, and the friendly atmosphere fostered by some hosts and fellow hikers on the communal deck. These elements could be attractive to local users prioritizing park access, basic comfort, cleanliness, and a social camping environment. The fact that the campground accommodated a self-contained RV despite not being specifically set up for it might also appeal to some RV travelers seeking proximity to Glacier.

However, the negative review regarding service acts as a cautionary note, suggesting that potential guests should be prepared for the possibility of encountering less than ideal service. While this might have been an isolated incident, it's an important piece of feedback that local users should weigh when making their decision.

To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current service quality and to inquire about specific amenities and policies, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground directly at the provided phone numbers: (406) 871-8339 or +1 406-871-8339. Speaking with the campground management can provide up-to-date information and allow potential guests to address any concerns regarding service or specific needs, such as RV accommodations or cabin features.

In conclusion, Glacier Elkhorn Cabins and Campground offers a conveniently located basecamp for exploring Glacier National Park, with basic but comfortable accommodations and generally clean facilities. The social atmosphere among hikers and the potential for friendly hosts are also positive aspects. However, the reported issue with service quality is a significant factor that local users should consider. Direct communication with the campground is recommended to gather the most current information and make an informed decision based on individual priorities for location, comfort, and service.
