The environment surrounding Saint Mary Campground is nothing short of breathtaking. Situated within Glacier National Park, campers are treated to stunning vistas of towering mountains, pristine alpine meadows, and potentially the shimmering waters of Saint Mary Lake. The air is fresh and invigorating, carrying the scents of pine and wildflowers. Wildlife is abundant in the park, and as one reviewer noted, even deer may wander right up to your campsite, offering incredible opportunities for nature observation and photography. The campground serves as a gateway to explore the diverse ecosystems of Glacier National Park, from dense forests to rugged peaks.
In terms of services and features, Saint Mary Campground offers several amenities that enhance the camping experience. A significant convenience highlighted by reviewers is the presence of flush toilets, which can be a welcome feature for many campers. The campsites are described as "decent sized" and "fairly private," providing a comfortable and secluded feel, allowing campers to enjoy a sense of tranquility and personal space amidst the natural surroundings. All campsites are pull-through, which is particularly beneficial for RV and trailer users, simplifying the process of parking and setting up camp. For waste disposal, a dump station is available within the campground.
It is important to note that Saint Mary Campground does not offer electricity or water hookups directly at the individual campsites. Campers planning to use electronic devices will need to rely on alternative power sources such as portable power stations or the designated generator use areas. Generators are permitted in loops B and C during certain hours, providing a way to charge batteries and power essential equipment. Campers should be mindful of the specific generator operating hours to ensure a peaceful environment for all.
A key feature of Saint Mary Campground is its prime location within Glacier National Park, offering easy access to numerous hiking trails, scenic drives, and other park attractions. The Saint Mary Lake area is particularly renowned for its beauty and serves as a starting point for iconic experiences such as the Going-to-the-Sun Road (depending on seasonal access). The pleasant and helpful demeanor of the park rangers is also worth noting, as they can provide valuable information about the park, safety guidelines, and available activities.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' with the intention of exploring Glacier National Park, Saint Mary Campground presents a fantastic promotional opportunity. The combination of a beautiful natural setting, relatively private campsites, and the convenience of flush toilets makes it a highly desirable option. The pull-through sites cater well to RVers, while all campers can appreciate the proximity to the park's unparalleled natural attractions. The potential for wildlife encounters adds an extra layer of excitement to the camping experience.
However, potential campers should be aware of the campground's popularity, especially during the summer months. As one reviewer mentioned, it can be "difficult to get into during the summer." Planning ahead and making reservations well in advance is highly recommended, particularly for weekend stays and during peak season. The reviewer also shared a valuable tip: visiting in the shoulder season, such as early September after school starts, may offer a better chance of securing a site, especially if arriving early in the week.
While Saint Mary Campground offers many appealing features, it's worth noting the absence of a playground for children, as mentioned by one reviewer. Families traveling with young children may need to consider this when planning their activities within the campground and the broader park area. However, the vast natural playground of Glacier National Park itself offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure for all ages.
In summary, Saint Mary Campground in Glacier National Park provides a wonderful basecamp for local users eager to experience the park's stunning beauty. Its well-maintained facilities, including flush toilets and a dump station, coupled with the fairly private pull-through campsites, contribute to a comfortable camping experience. The potential for wildlife sightings and the campground's strategic location within the park, offering access to numerous attractions, make it a highly sought-after destination. While summer reservations can be challenging, visiting during the shoulder season and arriving early may increase your chances of securing a site. Despite the lack of electricity and water at individual sites and the absence of a playground, the overall appeal of camping in this beautiful setting within Glacier National Park is undeniable for those searching for a memorable 'camping near me' adventure.

Saint Mary Campground, Glacier National Park Reviews
A beautiful campground with flush toilets and decent sized, fairly private campsites. Difficult to get into during the summer...but we managed to get a site on a Monday right after school started in September with no problem...just be sure you come early!
Sep 16, 2024 · Richard KopankeAll sites are pull through. Site C 117 was super. Not too far from bathhouse. Lots of shade. Even had deer walk up to site. No playground for children. There is a dump station. No electricity or water at sites. Generators can be used in loop B and C during certain hours. Rangers were very pleasant.
Sep 18, 2024 · John MatthewWe chose the campground cause of location. Near going to the sun East gate, many glacial and two medicine. Reservation system is very confusing, rangers give you different information about extending your stay beyond the reservable season. Only 4 showers for loops A,B and C. One had the door jammed and no light. Second day water was switching from warm to cold. Hard to get from one loop to the other. Missing some connection lanes. If you are just looking for location this is you campground for te glaciar park.
Aug 12, 2024 · Loreley zavattieroReally nice campground, not too crowded. Close to visitor center, which offers cool programs both for kids and adults. We could walk there crossing the creek via bridge with beautiful views. Rangers had interesting evening programs and on Wednwsdays, they host native american singers and dancers.
Jul 09, 2024 · Jazgul KochkorovaBest campground in the park if you ask me. I think it’s closer to Logan Pass Visitor Center compared to the west side of the park. Most importantly, there is Verizon signal here. Once you start going down going-to-the-sun road there is no reception. Bathrooms were clean. Also, shared bear boxes for food is a plus.
