Chewing Black Bones Campground

US-89, Babb, MT 59411, USA

4.0
We recently stayed two nights at the Chewing Black Bones Campground in Babb, Montana. We stayed at two different sites. The campground offers great scenery, and grass camping is much better than pavement, gravel, or dirt. I enjoyed staying here. My only complaint was that the dump station was plugged or full on the first night, and we could not dump. Additionally, only some sites had water hookups, and the electrical panels in both sites were positioned on the wrong side, so we had to run the power under the RV. This RV Park has so much potential if they would invest back into it. Despite these issues, the natural beauty and friendly atmosphere make it worth a visit. With some improvements, it could be an outstanding camping destination. - Les Day

Chewing Black Bones Campground Introduce

For local residents of Montana and travelers seeking "camping near me" in the breathtaking vicinity of Glacier National Park, Chewing Black Bones Campground, located on US-89 in Babb, MT 59411, offers a camping experience with remarkable natural beauty and a friendly atmosphere. Situated along the shores of St. Mary Lake, this campground has garnered positive feedback for its scenery and welcoming staff, although some visitors have noted areas where improvements could enhance the overall experience.

The environment surrounding Chewing Black Bones Campground is a significant draw, with reviewers consistently highlighting the "great scenery" and "beautiful" setting along St. Mary Lake. The location offers picturesque views and a peaceful ambiance, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes of Montana near Glacier National Park. One reviewer specifically appreciated the "grass camping," noting it as a preferable alternative to pavement, gravel, or dirt, suggesting a more natural and comfortable camping surface at some sites. The proximity to St. Mary Lake likely provides opportunities for lakeside activities and further enjoyment of the natural surroundings. The overall environment is described as having "so much potential" due to its inherent natural beauty, indicating a strong foundation for an exceptional camping destination.

In terms of services, Chewing Black Bones Campground offers a range of amenities, although some aspects have received mixed feedback. The staff is consistently praised as "very helpful and kind," with one reviewer recounting a positive experience where the staff assisted with receiving a package prior to their arrival, enabling them to make timely RV repairs. This highlights a commitment to customer service. However, some limitations in services have been noted. One camper reported that the dump station was "plugged or full" on their first night, preventing them from emptying their RV waste tanks. Additionally, water hookups were not available at all sites, and the electrical panels at two different sites were inconveniently positioned on the wrong side, requiring the power cord to be run under the RV. This suggests that while essential services are present, their functionality and accessibility might vary. The campground does offer grass camping at some sites, which is seen as a positive feature. However, based on a review, the facilities, particularly the showers and restrooms, are areas that could benefit from renovation. The availability of water and electrical hookups appears to be site-specific, so campers should inquire about these when making reservations or upon arrival. The presence of a dump station is a standard service for RV campgrounds, but its reliability seems to be an area for improvement.

The features of Chewing Black Bones Campground are primarily centered around its stunning natural location and the friendly service provided by the staff. The "great views" and "peaceful setting" along St. Mary Lake are significant features that attract visitors to this area. The availability of grass camping at some sites offers a more comfortable and natural camping experience compared to hard surfaces. The helpful and kind staff contribute to a welcoming and positive atmosphere. However, the campground also has features that could be enhanced, such as the reliability and accessibility of the dump station, the availability and positioning of water and electrical hookups, and the condition of the showers and restrooms. The potential for improvement suggests that with some investment in infrastructure, Chewing Black Bones Campground could become an even more desirable destination. The natural beauty of the location is undoubtedly its strongest feature, providing a backdrop for a memorable camping experience near Glacier National Park.
