Hearthstone Point Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in the popular Lake George region of New York, Hearthstone Point Campground, located at 3298 Lake Shore Dr, Lake George, NY 12845, USA, offers a conveniently accessible option. Reachable at (518) 668-5193 or +1 518-668-5193, this campground presents a mixed experience based on recent customer reviews, highlighting both its advantages and potential drawbacks.
The environment surrounding Hearthstone Point Campground benefits from its location in the Lake George area, known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. One positive aspect mentioned is its easy access from Interstate 87, making it a convenient stop for travelers, including those attending events at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). Despite its proximity to the highway, one reviewer noted that the campground is far enough away to avoid noise pollution from the interstate, suggesting a relatively peaceful setting despite its accessibility.
However, the quality and layout of the campsites appear to be inconsistent. While some sites are described as "really nice," "huge," and "flat," others are characterized as "tiny," "kind of sloped," "uneven," and "rocky," seemingly "squeezed in as an afterthought." This variability in campsite quality is a significant factor for local users to consider when booking. It underscores the importance of potentially inquiring about specific site characteristics or, as one reviewer successfully did, exploring available options upon arrival, especially during less busy periods.
One particularly positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the helpfulness of the staff, specifically mentioning Sara at check-in as "phenomenal" and "the best." Her willingness to allow guests to scope out available sites and switch to a more suitable one, even during a busy weekend, demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction. This flexibility and helpfulness from the staff can greatly enhance the camping experience, especially when initial expectations based on booking may not align with the reality of the assigned site.
In terms of services and features, the restrooms are described as "basic but clean." While they meet the fundamental requirement of cleanliness, they may lack more modern amenities or a higher level of comfort. One negative review, however, starkly contrasts this, describing the bathrooms as "filthy" with half the showers not working and the other half having intermittent hot water. This significant discrepancy in the perception of restroom quality is a serious concern for potential local users and suggests a potential inconsistency in maintenance or upkeep.
Lake access is mentioned as a feature, but one reviewer described the beach as "small" and "uncared for." This is a crucial point for local users who prioritize lake activities such as swimming or simply enjoying a well-maintained beachfront. The negative description suggests that the lake access at Hearthstone Point Campground may not meet the expectations of all visitors and could be a significant drawback for those seeking a traditional lakeside camping experience.
The overall layout of the campground is criticized in one review as "very poorly laid out," contributing to the cramped and uneven nature of some campsites. This could impact the ease of setting up camp and the overall flow and enjoyment of the campground environment. Local users with larger camping setups or those who prefer more spacious and well-organized campgrounds should take this into account.
Promotional information is not explicitly present in the provided reviews. However, the positive experience of easy access from I-87 could be considered a promotional point for travelers passing through the area. Additionally, the commendable service provided by staff members like Sara could encourage bookings, as positive interactions with staff can significantly influence a camper's overall satisfaction. The mention of a "great value to spend a night or two" in one review suggests that the pricing might be competitive, making it an attractive option for short stays, provided the basic needs are met.
Conversely, the strong negative review, describing it as "the worst campground I’ve ever stayed at" and citing filthy bathrooms, malfunctioning showers, cramped and uneven sites, and a poor lake access, serves as a significant deterrent. This starkly contrasting opinion highlights the potential for a highly variable experience at Hearthstone Point Campground. Local users should carefully weigh these differing perspectives when considering a stay.
Given the conflicting reviews, it is crucial for local users to gather more recent information and potentially inquire about the specific campsite they might be assigned. Asking about the current condition of the restrooms and showers, as well as the nature of the lake access, would be prudent. While the friendly staff is a noted positive, the inconsistencies in campsite quality and the potential for poorly maintained facilities are significant factors that cannot be overlooked.
In conclusion, Hearthstone Point Campground offers a convenient location near Lake George with easy access from I-87 and a friendly staff member who is willing to assist with site changes. However, potential local users must be aware of the highly variable quality of campsites, with some being small, sloped, and rocky. There are also conflicting reports regarding the cleanliness and functionality of the restrooms and showers, and the lake access is described as a small and uncared-for beach. While some may find it a comfortable and valuable option for a short stay, others have had significantly negative experiences. It is recommended that local users conduct further research and potentially make specific inquiries before booking to ensure that Hearthstone Point Campground meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience in the Lake George area.

Hearthstone Point Campground Reviews
We stayed at Hearthstone Point after a couple of concerts at SPAC. Easy access from I-87, yet far enough away that you don't hear it.The campsites are close together, but there are some really nice ones. Some are tiny and kind of sloped (almost seemingly squeezed in as an afterthought), and others are huge and flat. We booked one of the former and asked if we could switch upon arrival during a busy weekend. Sara at check in was phenomenal! She checked us in and let us scope out the available sites and swap. So easy! Sara is the best!!Restrooms are basic but clean. We didn't use the showers or visit the beach. Overall, a comfortable place at a great value to spend a night or two!!
Sep 07, 2024 · Melissa GreenawaltThe worst campground I’ve ever stayed at. The staff was friendly, but that is the only nice thing I could say about it. The bathrooms were filthy. Half of the showers were not working and the other half only had intermittent hot water. All of the campgrounds were extremely cramped, uneven, and rocky. The campgrounds themselves are laid out very poorly, and the lake access is only a small uncared for beach. Will not be staying here again. So many other campsites that looked nicer around the Lake George area.

I didn't see anyone doing rounds. 1 campsite went to bed around 2 am. The other campsite got even louder. Finally around 3 am someone talked to them & they went to bed. Also road traffic was very loud.Do not camp at site #212. People use it as a shortcut to bathroom so while we are in tent trying to sleep people are walking on the other side of our tent talking & the flashlights lit up our tent. They would also walk right next to our car. They need signs showing were exits, one-way lanes, bathrooms, beach & showers are. Even with a map we had a hard time finding anything.Shower had weird odor. Bathroom very rustic. Alot of poison ivy at campground. The deck by beach needs to be kept up. Beach was nice.
Aug 05, 2024 · Sheryl EWe have been coming to this campsite several times a year for the past decade and while it remains a favorite, because of its location right outside the Village of Lake George and the water access from the park, it feels like the grounds and facility maintenance has steadily gone downhill the last few years. We always stay on the loop closest to the lake where the bathrooms are a bit older (there were supposed to have been remodeled along with the others), the age of the bathrooms would not be an issue if they were even remotely clean, there was mold in the sink and NO hand soap, another camper left some in there but when that was finished there was no other soap provided, luckily toilet paper was always readily available and we had soap at our site. The staff is super friendly and doing the best that they can but it feels as if New York State has no interest in funding its parks. We will continue to visit but will pack extra supplies for cleanliness
Jul 08, 2024 · Adrienne CostanzoCertainI recently stayed at this campground and, unfortunately, had a mixed experience. While the location is convenient, there were a few significant drawbacks. The restrooms were not as clean as expected, which made the stay less comfortable. Additionally, the constant road noise was quite disruptive, making it difficult to fully relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Improvements in these areas would greatly enhance the overall experience.
