Homestead Campground Introduce
For local users in the New Smyrna Beach, Florida area searching for "camping near me," Homestead Campground, located at W586+GR, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169, USA, offers a distinct and potentially unforgettable camping experience. Based on a detailed review from a recent visitor specifically about loop 2 (Homestead), this campground appears to provide unique island campsites equipped with amenities for bonfires and grilling, ample space for groups, and opportunities for wildlife viewing. While the review also highlights the need for mosquito repellent, the overall impression is of an "awesome" camping destination with helpful staff and proximity to mainland beaches and markets. This introduction will delve into the environment, services, and features of Homestead Campground based on the available user feedback.
The environment of Homestead Campground, particularly within loop 2 as described by the reviewer, is characterized by an "island" setting. This suggests that the campsites are located on an island accessible from the mainland, potentially offering a more secluded and natural ambiance compared to traditional mainland campgrounds. Island camping often provides unique opportunities for interacting with coastal ecosystems and enjoying waterfront views. The proximity to the mainland, with its beaches and markets at a driving distance, offers a balance between natural isolation and convenient access to amenities and attractions.
One of the notable features of the campsites within loop 2 (Homestead) is the provision of a "pit for the bonfire with a grill top for grilling." This amenity enhances the camping experience by allowing guests to enjoy the traditional campfire atmosphere for warmth and socializing, as well as the convenience of grilling food outdoors. The presence of a dedicated bonfire pit ensures safety and containment of the fire, while the grill top adds a practical element for cooking meals. This setup is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor cooking and gathering around a campfire in the evenings.
Each campsite in loop 2 also includes a "picnic table" and "enough area to hold 8 people." This indicates that the sites are spacious and well-equipped for accommodating larger groups or families. The picnic table provides a dedicated space for outdoor dining and other activities, while the ample area around the site allows for comfortable setup of multiple tents or camping equipment, as well as room for a group of up to eight individuals to move around and relax. This makes Homestead Campground, at least in loop 2, well-suited for group camping and family outings.
Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of animals reportedly spotted in the area, including "Dolphins, stingrays, blue crabs, raccoons and owls." This diverse range of wildlife suggests a rich and thriving ecosystem surrounding the campground. The potential for dolphin and stingray sightings indicates proximity to coastal waters where these marine animals are commonly found. Blue crabs are also typical inhabitants of estuarine and coastal environments. Raccoons and owls are common terrestrial and nocturnal animals that might be encountered within the campground or its vicinity. This abundance of wildlife adds a unique and exciting dimension to the camping experience at Homestead Campground.
In terms of services, the review specifically praises the "staff for the park" as "awesome" and "very very helpful with everything." This positive feedback about the staff suggests that campers can expect a high level of customer service and assistance during their stay. Helpful park staff can significantly enhance the overall camping experience by providing information, addressing concerns, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable visit.
One crucial piece of advice from the reviewer is to "Take lots of mosquito repellent (camp fogger is the best)." This highlights a potential environmental factor to be aware of when camping in this area of Florida, particularly in an island setting that might have higher mosquito populations. Being prepared with adequate mosquito protection is essential for a comfortable stay at Homestead Campground.
The proximity of the mainland, with its "beaches" and "markets at a driving distance," offers campers the opportunity to explore the coastal attractions of New Smyrna Beach and easily access supplies and amenities. This balance between the natural island setting and the convenience of mainland resources makes Homestead Campground an appealing option for those who want a more secluded camping experience without being completely isolated.
While the review focuses on loop 2 (Homestead), it provides valuable insights into the overall environment and services of the campground. It is important to note that other loops or areas within Homestead Campground might offer different types of campsites or amenities. Local users interested in camping at Homestead Campground should consider inquiring about the different loops and their specific features when making a reservation.

Homestead Campground Reviews
I decided to write a review regarding loop 2 (Homestead) since there hasn't been one with enough details in order to prepare for the trip. The site was awesome! Site had a pit for the bonfire with a grill top for grilling. The island also had a picnic table and enough area to hold 8 people. Take lots of mosquito repellent (camp fogger is the best). The mainland has beaches and there are markets at a driving distance. The staff for the park were awesome! Very very helpful with everything.Animals spotted. Dolphins, stingrays, blue crabs, racoons and owls.
