Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday Introduce
Seeking a convenient and locally situated campground for your next getaway? Consider Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday, located at 2882 NW Shafer Dr, Monticello, IN 47960, USA. Easily reachable by phone at (574) 583-8646 or their mobile number +1 574-583-8646, this KOA campground offers a range of accommodation options and its location near Indiana Beach makes it a potentially attractive choice for those planning to visit the amusement park.
Under the platform category "camping near me," Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday presents itself as a viable option for local campers. However, based on recent customer feedback, it's important to have a comprehensive understanding of the campground's offerings and potential drawbacks to make an informed decision.
One recurring positive note in the reviews is the cleanliness of the facilities, with guests specifically mentioning the availability of a sufficient number of bathrooms, which is particularly beneficial for families with young children. This aspect contributes to a more comfortable and hygienic camping experience.
However, other aspects of the campground have received less favorable feedback. The playground is described as worn down, which may be a disappointment for families with younger children seeking on-site recreational activities. Additionally, the miniature golf facility is not located directly at this KOA but at an adjacent property.
The swimming pool, while noted as being clean, appears to be in need of some maintenance. Reviews mention large chips in the concrete and a sloppy and faded paint job, which might detract from the overall appeal and potentially raise concerns about the upkeep of the facility.
Check-in experiences seem to vary, with one guest reporting an issue regarding early check-in fees and a perceived lack of flexibility or clear communication upon arrival. This particular review highlighted a discrepancy between information provided over the phone and the policy enforced at the campground, leading to an unexpected charge and a somewhat unwelcoming initial interaction.
The "little red cabins" at site #22 were described as great for a family of four, offering adequate space and reasonably comfortable beds. However, a significant concern raised by this reviewer was the limited on-site activities for children. The worn-down playground was the only available option, and there wasn't much space for kids to play near the cabins while parents were cooking or relaxing. This lack of dedicated children's activities distinguishes this KOA from others where a wider range of options is typically available.
The overall atmosphere and interaction with other campers also received mixed feedback, with one guest noting that other campers were not particularly friendly and that the staff seemed frustrated early in the season. This suggests that the social environment and staff morale might be areas to consider for potential guests.
For RV sites, one reviewer who stayed at site 97 described the overall experience as okay, but pointed out an issue with the sewer hookup. Additionally, the presence of trees was noted as both a pro (for limited shade) and a con (making it difficult to pull out of the site due to their placement on corners). This highlights the importance of site selection and awareness of potential logistical challenges for RVs.
Interestingly, it was mentioned that the campground was previously connected to the adjacent Indiana Beach Campground and that some seasonal sites are grandfathered in from that period. This historical context might be relevant for long-time visitors to the area.
On a positive note for pet owners, the dog park was described as large and fairly well maintained, providing a valuable amenity for those traveling with dogs.
The staff were generally described as friendly and informative about local area attractions. This suggests that while there might be inconsistencies in the check-in process, the staff is knowledgeable and willing to assist guests with information about the surrounding area.
Given the proximity to Indiana Beach, the campground is acknowledged as a convenient lodging option for those planning to visit the amusement park. However, for guests primarily seeking a campground with extensive on-site activities and a strong sense of community, particularly families with young children, the reviews suggest that Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday might not fully meet those expectations.
One reviewer recommended Van Meter Buffalo Ranch as a nearby off-site activity that is very kid-friendly, located about a 20-minute drive from the campground. This suggests that while on-site activities might be limited, there are attractions in the vicinity that could enhance a family vacation.
In conclusion, Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday offers a clean environment and is conveniently located for those visiting Indiana Beach. It provides essential amenities such as bathrooms and a dog park. However, potential guests should be aware of the worn-down playground, the off-site miniature golf, the reported need for pool maintenance, and the limited on-site activities for children. Check-in experiences and interactions with other campers and staff might also vary. It is advisable to consider these factors alongside the campground's proximity to Indiana Beach and other local attractions when making your decision about "camping near me." Contacting the campground directly at (574) 583-8646 or +1 574-583-8646 for the most up-to-date information and to discuss specific needs or concerns is always recommended.

Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday Reviews
The place is clean. Plenty of bathrooms, which is helpful for little kids. Downside, the playground is worn down, put put is not at this location but the next door location. The pool, which was not open, which is fine; does not look appealing; at all. The people were not friendly at check in. I was told on the phone by guy that we could come at 2p for the cabin; we got there at 2p. I was pretty surprised when I found I would be charged $20 to check in early. When asked the same guy he told me that he got the times confused. The lady, immediately jumped out of her seat and demanded that I was charged $20 and checked to ensure he charged me. Or I could leave come back at 4p but I would need to leave the campground. I was surprised. I agreed after driving 2hrs to get there. The little red cabins were great, (we had #22,) for our family of 4. Downside, nothing for our kids to do but play at the sad little playground. The beds were not too bad and space in between was okay, little tight. Again, not a lot of room for our kids to play near us, as we cooked. We had to let them play in other empty spaces. We have been to other KOA sites and there has always been plenty of activities for kids to do. Other campers were not friendly and staff was frustrated already for the season. Sadly, we will be not staying here next month (booked already,) and choose another location with activities spots for kids and space for kids. My husband was right, this good if you are going to Indiana Beach but nothing else. Camp store was didn’t have a lot of things (we have stayed off season before and had stocked stores.) Just nothing to do on site with 2 kids who are 6yrs old. Best activities around: Van Meter Buffalo Ranch. Super cool and very kid friendly. 20 min drive and cost with a buffalo burger, chips and soda with ride to see up close buffalo, $30.00 for all 4 of us.
May 12, 2024 · Rachel HemingerWe stayed at site 97 and over all it was ok except for the sewer hookup, see the photo. The trees have pros and cons. Shade is a pro, there wasn't a lot of shade, and trying to pull out is a con, trees are on all the right side corners. We were lucky enough to be able to pull through the site in front of us to make a wider turn to get out.The pool was clean but needs some maintenance. There were large chips out of the concrete and the paint needed to be done better; sloppy and faded. The campground was adjoining to the Indian Beach Campground and as it was explained to me they were the same campground a few years ago. There were still a few seasonal sites that were grandfathered. The dog park was large and fairly well maintained. All the staff were very friendly and informative about area attractions.
Sep 01, 2024 · Matt SimonThe campground was spacious. We stayed at the KOA. The game room on this side was good, not so much on the IB side. Many broken games. The lady at mini golf was a sweet heart. The front desk lady at KOA was very nice and informative. My grandson was thrilled with the splash pad. Most of the guards were great. But some teenagers were knocking littles down. I told the guard, and she said she told them to stop and they wouldn't. Very shy. Mind you the parents were there, so I went and told the kids, they said tell my parents, which I did. There were two guards throughout our stay that were more worried about their phone. Picture attached. But the others that were there were great. Constantly walking around. I think Evan was one name, he was great.
Jul 23, 2024 · Rosemary LonerganIndiana Beach/Monticello KOA - Monticello, IndianaWe just finished a long weekend at this KOA Holiday located near Lake Shafer. We are typically cautious when we choose campgrounds and like to find good reviews and there wasn’t much available on this one except a fair amount of warnings and negatives about the adjoining Indiana Beach Campground (violence, rowdy crowds, police presence).ProsFriendly and helpful staffClean areasLarge sitesFair amount of shadeLarge pool (cold)LifeguardsNice camp storeClean bath house and laundry facilityKOA side was quiet and very family friendlyFree trolley to Indiana Beach Amusement Park (we did not use)Fairly level sitesConsIt is literally connected to Indiana Beach Campground and they share amenities. Indiana Beach has 1003 sites ranging from primitive tent to FHU and brings in a variety of campers. Indiana Beach campers wear wristbands which make it easy to identify and we noticed they were the only campers that sped around on golf carts blaring loud music. However, it was enforced for quiet times.Security guards constantly walk and ride patrolling the camp grounds (pro and con because we have never been anywhere that needed it, but nice to know it was there.)Limited activities for a Holiday. It had a basic playground and the pool. The splash pad is located next door and free to use. The kids did enjoy it but you can see the general neglect.General neglect it the running theme with the amenities available. Most of the games in the arcade don’t work.Water pressure was poor at sites and in the bath house. The showers are push buttonThe mini gold is surrounded by ponds full of gross, stagnant water.Mosquitos were unbelievably bad as were gnats and ants.General feeling was if we were close we would go for a weekend, but we were 3.5 hours away and would not drive that distance for this facility again.
Jun 20, 2022 · Megan SmithThis campground was big and had great spacious sites. We ended up with a full hookup across from the gift shop so there was a lot of traffic near our site. We did not use the restrooms/showers so I don't know how clean they were. The KOA had a clean pool, big dog run and nice grocery/gift shop. The staff worked hard and they were very friendly. You can get discounted tickets ($27) for the Indiana Beach Boardwalk. A historic amusement park and beach/water park The Boardwalk was rundown, but new investors have bought it and are in the process of remodeling it. Still the kids had a great time there. The KOA is next door to the Indiana Beach Campground which was a massive crowded campground. Looked like a lot of fun. If you like big crowds. Will visit again in the future.
