Look no further than Leigh Creek Campground, situated off Forest Road #504 in Ten Sleep, WY 82442, USA. This small and intimate campground, boasting only ten sites along with a few tent spots across a bridge, offers a unique and tranquil camping experience. Based on glowing reviews, Leigh Creek Campground is a favorite among those who have had the pleasure of staying there, praised for its beauty, peacefulness, and secluded atmosphere.
The environment of Leigh Creek Campground is a significant part of its charm. The majority of the campsites are described as "shady," nestled amongst the trees, providing a cool and comfortable environment, especially during the warmer months. However, it's noted that sites 10 and 11 receive a little more sun and have less shade. A standout feature of this campground is its access to Leigh Creek itself. Campers have the opportunity to "cool off in the creek," suggesting a refreshing and enjoyable way to beat the heat. For those seeking extra seclusion, sites 7 and 8 are specifically highlighted as "great tent sites" offering a more private experience. Additionally, sites 4 and 5 are described as "walk in" sites located along the creek, promising a particularly immersive natural setting.
Given the small size of Leigh Creek Campground, the focus is more on the natural environment and the peaceful atmosphere rather than extensive services and features. The reviews do not mention specific amenities such as restrooms, showers, or water sources. The emphasis is clearly on the beauty and tranquility of the location. The fact that it's described as a "great little park" suggests a well-maintained and naturally appealing area. The presence of the creek is a significant feature, offering not only a way to cool down but also the soothing sounds of flowing water, contributing to the overall peaceful ambiance.
The intimate nature of the campground, with only ten sites, contributes to its secluded and peaceful feel. One reviewer, while expressing a desire to keep this gem a secret ("I'm anti gatekeeping but this campground makes me understand why people do"), highlights just how beautiful and tranquil the location is. This sentiment underscores the special quality of Leigh Creek Campground, suggesting it offers a genuine escape from more crowded and developed camping areas. The fact that a group staying for just one night on their way to Yellowstone wished they could have stayed longer further attests to its appeal.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. The primary draw of Leigh Creek Campground appears to be its natural beauty, peacefulness, and secluded atmosphere. For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize these qualities over extensive amenities, Leigh Creek Campground offers a compelling option. For local users looking for "camping near me" on platforms that may also offer related goods and services, Leigh Creek Campground provides an opportunity to experience the quieter side of the Bighorn National Forest. Its shady sites and creek access make it particularly appealing during warmer weather. The secluded tent sites offer a more primitive and immersive camping experience for those who prefer it. While specific amenities are not detailed, the focus on the natural beauty and peacefulness suggests a more traditional and nature-centric camping style.
To inquire about availability and potentially make reservations for Leigh Creek Campground, you can contact the reservation line at (877) 444-6777 or mobile phone at +1 877-444-6777. This is the central reservation system for many federal campgrounds, including those in National Forests. Given the small number of sites and the positive reviews highlighting its desirability, it is advisable to book in advance, especially during peak camping season. When making a reservation, it would be prudent to inquire about the specific amenities available at the campground, such as water sources and restroom facilities, to ensure it meets your needs.
In conclusion, Leigh Creek Campground offers local users a unique "camping near me" experience within the stunning Bighorn National Forest. Small campground ten sites. Shady except 10 an 11 get a little hot with little shade. But you have the creek to cool off in. Site 7, 8 are great tent sites. Very secluded. 4an 5 are walk in an along the creek. Great little park.
Jul 06, 2024 · Leslie FlynnFavorite campground I've ever stayed at. Was there with a group in mid July for one night on our way to Yellowstone and we all wished we could've had more time. So beautiful and peaceful. I'm anti gatekeeping but this campground makes me understand why people do.
Sep 24, 2023 · Syd WardI'd been in several campgrounds and this is to stay close to Yellowstone east entrance. We stayed just a night leaving the park towards Devil's tower. The mountains around are very impressive, it was a very windy and hot night. First days of August.
Aug 25, 2020 · Devi San MartinI really loved camping here. Spacious sites, quiet and with the sound of the river, I might have slept the best I ever have on a camping trip. Very clean bathrooms, just the garbage was overflowing and didn't seem to be emptied regularly. Convenient to climbing and worth the splurge!
Jul 05, 2022 · Katie FooteGreat, small campground with a fantastic host (Buck)! In a time of covid, it doesn't get much more socially distant than this. We stayed at site #3 (reservable) - it was setback, private, large enough for 2 tents and had access to the creek. Stayed for 4 days / 3 nights. Mid July was dry, mid to upper 80s during the day and cooled off to low 60s at night with very little humidity. Firewood was available on site as was crisp, potable water. Extremely clean toilettes. No cell service. No mosquitos and other bugs were very limited. The sounds of the running water lulled us to sleep and drowned out other noises. One morning, we were awoken to a cattle drive, which was very cool. The only downsides: 1) it's close to route 16 and you could occasionally hear the traffic. 2) if you need ice or other supplies, the best, nearest town (Worland) is about 35 miles away - Although Ten Sleep is closer and has a fantastic local brewery (get a growler to go), the only other store / gas station charges ridiculous prices and has very limited items. Be sure to stock up before you get there.
