Looking for the perfect camping escape near you? McHenry Campground, nestled at 515 UT-319, Heber City, UT 84032, USA, offers a delightful outdoor experience for both tent and RV campers. Situated in the scenic landscapes of Utah, this campground provides a convenient and accessible retreat for local adventurers and families seeking a break from the everyday. You can reach them at (435) 649-9540 or +1 435-649-9540 for inquiries and reservations.
McHenry Campground boasts a beautiful natural environment that appeals to outdoor enthusiasts. While some campsites offer serene views and a sense of spaciousness, it's worth noting, as highlighted by a recent visitor, that certain spots, such as site 140, are located in proximity to the highway. This can result in noticeable noise levels around the clock, which some campers might find disruptive. However, many still appreciate the overall beauty of the park despite this. The presence of large, well-maintained campsites and substantial fire pits adds to the appeal for those looking to enjoy campfires and outdoor cooking.
For families camping with children, McHenry Campground offers excellent features. The playgrounds within the campground are a significant highlight, providing dedicated spaces for kids to play and burn off energy. This makes it a family-friendly destination where children can enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
In terms of services and amenities, McHenry Campground provides reasonably spacious sites suitable for various camping setups. Tent campers should be aware that while the sites are generally roomy, the tent pads on some sites might be just the advertised size, potentially offering limited extra space. The campground also offers restrooms and individual external-entry showers, which are generally reported to be nice and well-maintained, enhancing the comfort of your stay.
However, based on recent feedback, it's important to be aware of potential maintenance issues. Some visitors have encountered problems such as uneven slabs on campsites, broken water spigots, and instances of arriving at a site that was not yet vacant or had broken glass scattered around. While these appear to be isolated incidents, it's advisable to check your assigned site upon arrival and report any issues to the campground management promptly.
One aspect to consider is the limited and potentially overpriced options at the park store. As one reviewer mentioned, basic necessities like ice and snacks can be quite expensive. Therefore, it is recommended that campers come prepared with their own supplies to avoid relying heavily on the store for everyday needs.
Despite some of the noted drawbacks, McHenry Campground remains a popular choice for those seeking camping opportunities near Heber City. Its location provides access to the wider natural beauty of the region, making it a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions and engaging in outdoor activities. The combination of natural beauty and family-friendly amenities makes it a contender for your next camping trip.
For local users searching for "camping near me," McHenry Campground offers a tangible option within a reasonable distance. It caters to both tent and RV campers, providing essential facilities and recreational features like playgrounds. While the highway noise in certain areas might be a concern for some, the overall experience of being surrounded by nature and having access to amenities makes it a viable choice. We encourage you to weigh the pros and cons based on your personal preferences and camping style.
To make the most of your stay at McHenry Campground, consider the following tips:
- If noise sensitivity is a concern, inquire about campsite locations away from the highway when making your reservation.
- Bring ample supplies, including food, drinks, and basic camping necessities, to minimize reliance on the potentially expensive park store.
- Upon arrival at your campsite, inspect the area for any hazards like broken glass or uneven surfaces and report them to the campground host if necessary.
- Take advantage of the playground facilities if you are camping with children.
- Be prepared for varying weather conditions, as mountain environments can experience sudden changes.
- Respect the campground rules and regulations to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
McHenry Campground offers a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities for a convenient camping experience near you. While some aspects, such as highway noise in certain spots and occasional maintenance issues, have been noted by visitors, the overall appeal of the location, spacious campsites, and family-friendly features makes it a destination worth considering for your next outdoor adventure in the Heber City area. Remember to book in advance, especially during peak seasons, to secure your preferred campsite. We hope this detailed introduction helps you in planning your next camping trip to McHenry Campground!

McHenry Campground Reviews
Our campsite was large and well maintained. The fire pit is huge. The park is beautiful. The 3 stars is due to the location of our campsite. Spot 140 sits about 150 yards straight below the highway. It was loud and it was like that 24 hours. It became background noise, but the idea of a big rig rolling down the hill into our campsite did not escape my thoughts. The park store is very limited on options and overpriced, which is to be expected. 7 bags of ice, a bag of jerky cost and a Frazil slushie ran us $72 and some change. Definitely a beautiful place!!
Jul 06, 2023 · Tammy GladdenNice place for tent camping. Playgrounds in the campground are great for kids. Sites are reasonably spacious, but the tent pad in our site was barely large enough for our 10'x14' tent (so, it's as-advertised, but no larger). Restrooms are nice, and individual external-entry showers are available.Would have rated five stars, but for these few problems: the slab in our site was way out of plane, and a few of us tripped over it. The accessible water spigot right by our site (122) was broken. There was gear still set up in our assigned site when we arrived - we couldn't find the campground host, so had to go back to check-in to be assigned a new site. There was broken glass scattered around our slab and tent pad. As others have said, there is highway noise.
Jul 18, 2022 · Peter KimballLove it very clean and some shade in the morning. Best to bring a canopy for the afternoon. Near the waterfront, playground and bathrooms/showers.
Jun 04, 2023 · Naomi VillanuevaI haven’t been here in 10 years and I am wondering why!?! It was clean well taken care of and the views wereAmazing. The camp ground has nice padded tent camping and long driveways so you can fit your boat and cars. I would recommend this place.
Jun 12, 2019 · SaraGreat tent camping. The sites and facilities are nice and we'll maintained. It is quite close to the highway so you'll be able to hear the cars and trucks going by.
