3.0
This campground is awful. Sites were very confusing and not very large and very uneven, nothing to do, nobody to talk to when you go there. That is the worst experience ever and DO NOT recommend. I ended up stay at Bear mountain cabins and campground. They thankfully had full hookup and and Large and beautiful sites. - Addison Vlietstra

New River Gorge Campground Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of the New River Gorge in West Virginia, the New River Gorge Campground, located at 632 Milroy Grose Rd, Lansing, WV 25862, USA, presents a quieter and less crowded option. You can reach them at (304) 658-3600 or their mobile number +1 304-658-3600 for inquiries. Based on the limited customer feedback available, the campground offers a more secluded experience but has received mixed reviews regarding the quality of the campsites themselves.

Within the "camping near me" category, New River Gorge Campground appears to cater to those who prefer a more tranquil and less bustling camping environment. One reviewer described it as "not crowded," making it appealing for individuals or families seeking a peaceful getaway. Its location is noted as being "not far at all from the main road," suggesting easy access while still providing a sense of being away from the main tourist traffic. The campground is also conveniently located close to Fayetteville and surrounding attractions and adventures within the New River Gorge area, making it a potential base for exploring the region's natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

The environment surrounding the New River Gorge Campground is described as "very nice," aligning with the scenic beauty that the New River Gorge region is known for. This suggests that campers can expect to be surrounded by natural landscapes, although specific details about the immediate surroundings of the campground (e.g., wooded areas, open fields) are not provided in the reviews.

In terms of services and features directly related to the campground, the available reviews offer contrasting perspectives. One reviewer had a very negative experience, stating that the campground was "awful." They described the campsites as "very confusing," "not very large," and "very uneven." This individual also mentioned a lack of activities and a lack of available staff to assist. Consequently, they did not recommend the campground and opted to stay at an alternative location, Bear Mountain Cabins and Campground, which they praised for its full hookups and large, beautiful sites.

In contrast, the other reviewer had a more positive experience, highlighting the lack of crowds and the convenient location. They specifically mentioned the ease of pulling an RV into the campsites, suggesting that it is RV-friendly, at least in terms of accessibility. This difference in opinion regarding the campsites themselves (uneven vs. easy to pull an RV into) indicates potential variability in site quality or individual preferences and experiences.

A unique feature mentioned in one of the reviews is the presence of an "Antique Shop next to this campground." This could be an added attraction for campers interested in browsing or purchasing antiques during their stay. The reviewer specifically noted "Beautiful quilts at the Antique store," suggesting it might be a noteworthy shop.

The limited information does not provide details on specific amenities such as restrooms, showers, fire pits, picnic tables, or hookup availability at the New River Gorge Campground. The negative review mentioned the lack of full hookups, which was a reason for the reviewer to switch to another campground. However, the positive review's mention of easily pulling an RV in implies that at least some sites are suitable for RVs, although the level of hookups at these sites is not specified.

No promotional information is included in the provided reviews. Local users interested in the New River Gorge Campground would need to contact them directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about campsite availability, sizes, levelness, hookup options (if any), amenities offered, and any current rates or special offers. Given the contrasting reviews, it would be particularly important to ask for detailed information about the campsites themselves and to potentially request photos if available.

For local residents seeking "camping near me" in the New River Gorge area who prioritize a quieter and less crowded experience and are interested in exploring Fayetteville and the surrounding attractions, the New River Gorge Campground might be a viable option. Its proximity to these points of interest is a definite advantage. However, potential campers should be aware of the negative feedback regarding the quality and size of the campsites and the lack of full hookups reported by one reviewer. The positive mention of easy RV access by another reviewer suggests that some sites may be better suited for RVs than others.

To make an informed decision, local users should contact the campground directly to address the discrepancies in the reviews. Inquire about the different types of campsites available, their sizes and surface conditions, the availability of water and electric hookups, and other amenities such as restrooms, showers, and fire pits. Asking about the general layout of the campground and whether there are specific sites that are recommended for different types of camping (e.g., tents vs. RVs) could also be helpful. The presence of the antique shop next door might be an additional factor for some visitors to consider.

In conclusion, New River Gorge Campground near Lansing, West Virginia, offers a quieter and less crowded alternative for "camping near me" in a scenic region close to Fayetteville and the New River Gorge attractions. While one reviewer experienced significant issues with the campsites, another found it suitable for RVs and appreciated the lack of crowds. The presence of an adjacent antique shop is a unique feature. Local users should directly contact the campground to obtain detailed information about the campsites and amenities to determine if it meets their specific needs and preferences for a camping getaway in the New River Gorge area.
