The Outpost - New River Gorge Campground Reviews
This is a really nice and well-maintained campground, the music venue is really cool. Having said that, the food was not that great. We ordered a pizza and it was Pizza sauce and cheese on a flat piece of dough. Also having some popular beers like Bud Light or Budweiser at your bar would be great. If you guys would’ve had Bud Light, I would’ve gone back to the bar every 15 minutes for a drink. The campgrounds however, are amazing. You guys have really nice property. The spring concert was awesome!
Apr 21, 2025 · daryll proudI can't praise it enough! Spacious, yet nothing seems too far away, clean well maintained campsites. Affordable! So, frequent return visits is our plan! The live music is the favorite for our party, it's done right!! They have successfully created that magic atmosphere where everyone becomes so friendly & it's kid friendly, too!!! We had a very respectful Jr. Fire Marshal, about 10, present on our visit.AND, the beer was actually very reasonably priced!!!
Apr 24, 2025 · Brian KittelThe welcome at reception was great, lovely set up, we had a campsite on the lower outpost, not far from the main washroom but we were really close to the outdoor shower and there are porta loo’s in the lower campground. My husband loved the outdoor shower, I really enjoyed the main showers, really clean and hot.We had a picnic table and place to have a camp fire - they’ve thought of everything here - we really enjoyed our stay. We had tent site 26The only downside was that we struggled with securing our tent pegs because of hard ground a few inches down, so took us a while to figure out the best place to secure our tent properly with some modifications! We took our dog and it was super dog friendly there. A definite recommend from us!
Apr 30, 2025 · Rhian DaviesThe Outpost has to be my absolute favorite campground in existence! We made a spontaneous trip to the area, and then last minute realized we didn't have a place to stay. After a quick search of campgrounds in the area, we found this absolute gem! Customer service was top notch. The grounds were so well respected and free of litter. Everything was lit enough to guide your way to the bathrooms and showers, but dim enough to not ruin the experience of a sky full of stars. We were even pleasantly surprised with a big gathering area with a campfire and live music!
Apr 01, 2025 · Kyle JamesUnfortunately on our drive to New River Gorge our van broke down and we had to cancel our reservation due to having to get our transportation issue resolved. This happened the day before our reservation after The Outpost’s offices were closed so I sent an email and then called first thing the next day. I am aware of the cancellation policy but there is a very human element to life and it seems that a family run business would take into consideration some things are out of your control. That is not the experience I had. They were very short on the phone and let us know that it was too bad but they couldn’t do anything for us. I asked about re-booking for another time and they said we could but they would not be providing any credit towards that booking and we had to forfeit the entire price paid for the stay. My husband and I travel to National Parks about 3 times a year and we almost always book with the National Park system. We have had things happen in the past (only once or twice) but the Rangers have always been incredible about helping us to rebook or provide a refund. Once was due to severe weather and another time was due to our van having mechanical issues (again).I sincerely regret not booking through the National Park Service this time because the same amount of empathy or understanding of the situation did not exist with The Outpost. They did finally offer to provide a 25% credit towards a future booking ($11) if we provided receipts from a tow truck and repair shop. So the laid back friendly vibe I’ve read about in other reviews was definitely not our experience. I was disappointed with how short and unfriendly the staff we spoke with was. Usually you don’t experience that from the outdoors community. So from now on we will stick with the National Park Service…as soon as our van is repaired and we can make it to West Virginia :).
