RiverView Park and Campground

4.0
A place to park your RV. Good Tribal (Native American) Campground for adults and families looking to stay a couple nights just to sleep in their RV while you visit local attractions. Campground has nice, older, but overall maintained facilities. Very good value. Nothing for kids to do while there. About half sites are full hook up ($35/night) and the rest have water and electricity ($25). The campground doesn’t have any recreational activities for anyone. Wild Bluffs Golf Course is right next to campground. Barebones is best way to describe. There is a beach to swim at with a small playground for kids a half mile north of the camp. Casino is across the street. A Lake Superior bay can be seen across the street from the campground. Taquamenon Falls & St. Ignace is an hour away. Sault Ste. Marie is 30 minutes. Around 10 minutes to Iroquois Lighthouse and 55 minutes to Whitefish Point Lighthouse. The parks grass tends to be on the high side. Appears to be at least a couple weeks since last cut. Better suited for adults or short stays than kids. Restrooms and showers are clean and maintained but dimly lit. Has 2 dump stations as well but the water didn’t work to clean out your hoses. Roads in park are gravel but maintained. Fire pits on every lot. Sites are on the tight side but wide enough to park your RV. Great value for the money. I’d stay again if we were just looking to have a clean place to sleep while visiting local attractions. - Jerry R

RiverView Park and Campground Introduce

For local residents and travelers exploring "camping near me" in the Brimley, Michigan area, RiverView Park and Campground, located at 12084 W Lakeshore Dr, Brimley, MI 49715, USA, presents a budget-conscious option primarily catering to RV owners seeking a base for exploring the eastern Upper Peninsula. You can reach them at (888) 422-9645 or their mobile number +1 888-422-9645 for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, RiverView Park and Campground offers a clean and functional place to park your RV, particularly for short stays focused on visiting nearby attractions. However, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of its limitations, including a lack of on-site recreational activities and some concerns regarding management organization and grounds maintenance.

RiverView Park and Campground is described as a "Good Tribal (Native American) Campground" that primarily serves as a place for adults and families to sleep in their RVs while they visit local attractions. The campground offers a straightforward, "barebones" experience, emphasizing its value as an affordable place to park and stay rather than a destination with extensive on-site amenities or activities. It appears to be a practical choice for those prioritizing a clean and maintained place to sleep while dedicating their time to exploring the surrounding area.

The Environment and Location: Proximity to Attractions and Lake Superior

The location of RiverView Park and Campground offers a significant advantage for those interested in exploring the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is situated in Brimley, providing relatively easy access to a variety of notable attractions. Directly across the street from the campground, a bay of Lake Superior can be seen, offering the potential for scenic views. A casino is also conveniently located across the street, providing entertainment options for adults.

For those interested in outdoor activities, Wild Bluffs Golf Course is right next to the campground. A beach suitable for swimming, along with a small playground for children, is located approximately half a mile north of the camp. This provides some limited options for water-based recreation, although it is not directly on the campground property.

RiverView Park and Campground also serves as a convenient base for day trips to popular Upper Peninsula destinations. Tahquamenon Falls and St. Ignace are located about an hour away, while Sault Ste. Marie is a 30-minute drive. Additionally, the Iroquois Lighthouse is around 10 minutes away, and Whitefish Point Lighthouse is approximately 55 minutes away. This central location allows visitors to easily access a wide range of natural and cultural attractions in the region.

However, some aspects of the campground's immediate environment have received negative feedback. One reviewer noted that "The park's grass tends to be on the high side," suggesting inconsistent groundskeeping and potentially an unkempt appearance. This could impact the overall aesthetic appeal of the campground.

Services and Amenities: Basic and Functional

RiverView Park and Campground offers a range of services and amenities that are described as "nice, older, but overall maintained." This suggests that while the facilities may not be modern, they are generally kept in working order. The campground offers both full hookup sites (water, electricity, sewer) for $35 per night and sites with water and electricity for $25 per night, providing options for different RV needs and budgets.

Key amenities mentioned in the reviews include:

  • Clean Restrooms and Showers: Despite being "dimly lit," the restrooms and showers are noted as being clean and maintained, which is a significant positive for campers.
  • Two Dump Stations: The presence of two dump stations is convenient for RV owners when preparing to leave. However, one reviewer noted that "the water didn’t work to clean out your hoses" at the dump stations, which is a functional limitation.
  • Gravel Roads: The roads within the park are gravel but are reported to be maintained, suggesting they are navigable for RVs.
  • Fire Pits on Every Lot: The inclusion of fire pits at each site allows campers to enjoy campfires, a common feature sought by many.

A significant limitation of RiverView Park and Campground is the reported lack of on-site recreational activities for anyone, including children. One reviewer explicitly stated, "Nothing for kids to do while there" and "The campground doesn’t have any recreational activities for anyone." This makes it less suitable for families looking for a campground with built-in entertainment options.

Features and Atmosphere: Quiet Sites with Organizational Concerns

One positive feature highlighted in a review is that "the sites are nice size and quiet." Spacious and quiet sites contribute to a more comfortable and restful stay, which can be particularly appreciated after a day of exploring local attractions.

However, a significant concern raised in another review pertains to the campground's organization. The reviewer described the place as "very unorganized," citing issues such as staff being thrown into jobs they don't know, lost paperwork (including payment records), and confusion regarding extending stays. These organizational problems could lead to frustration and a negative experience for guests.

The same reviewer also echoed concerns about grounds maintenance, stating, "They don't take care of the grounds at all. Not sure the last time they mowed or trimmed." This reinforces the earlier comment about the high grass and suggests that overall groundskeeping may be lacking, impacting the aesthetic appeal of the campground.

Despite these issues, the reviewer did note one positive: "They did keep up with the trash pickup." This indicates that at least some basic maintenance functions are being performed.

The overall atmosphere, based on the reviews, seems to be functional and geared towards providing a place to sleep rather than a recreational destination in itself. The "great value for the money" mentioned by one reviewer suggests that the lower cost may be a significant factor for those willing to overlook the lack of amenities and potential organizational issues.

Promotional Information and Why to Consider (with Caveats) RiverView Park and Campground

For local users and travelers seeking "camping near me" in the Brimley, MI area on a budget, RiverView Park and Campground offers a potentially affordable option, particularly for RV owners. Its strategic location provides convenient access to a variety of popular attractions in the eastern Upper Peninsula, including Lake Superior, a nearby casino, Wild Bluffs Golf Course, and serves as a good base for day trips to Tahquamenon Falls, Sault Ste. Marie, and various lighthouses.

The campground offers clean and maintained restrooms and showers, as well as functional hookups for RVs. The presence of fire pits at each site is also a plus. The quiet and relatively spacious RV sites can contribute to a comfortable night's sleep.

However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported limitations and issues. The campground offers no on-site recreational activities, making it less suitable for families with children or those seeking a campground with built-in entertainment. There are concerns about the organization of the management, with reports of lost paperwork and staff unprepared for their roles. Additionally, grounds maintenance, particularly mowing and trimming, appears to be inconsistent.

Given these mixed reviews, local users looking for "camping near me" in Brimley should weigh the value and convenient location against the potential for organizational issues and the lack of on-site activities and potentially unkempt grounds. If your priority is a budget-friendly, clean place to park your RV while you explore the many attractions of the eastern Upper Peninsula, RiverView Park and Campground may be a viable option. However, if you are seeking a campground with extensive amenities, organized activities, or meticulous groundskeeping, you might want to consider alternative options in the area.
