Shenango Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Transfer, Pennsylvania area with a lakeside setting? Shenango Campground, located at 492 W Lake Rd, Transfer, PA 16154, USA, offers a large campground with a variety of site options. Based on recent customer reviews, it provides a camping experience that varies depending on the season, with some notable amenities and environmental features.
The environment of Shenango Campground is characterized by its proximity to a lake, offering some campsites with desirable waterfront views. The campground is quite extensive, boasting approximately 300 sites in total. These sites vary in their characteristics; some are described as being close together, while others offer the sought-after feature of being directly on the water. Additionally, some sites are noted as being semi-private, catering to different preferences for space and seclusion. For local users searching for "camping near me" with diverse site options, Shenango Campground appears to offer a range to choose from.
In terms of services and infrastructure, the reviews indicate that the campground's infrastructure is generally older. However, there have been recent improvements, particularly in the "golden" loop restroom, which is open during the winter. This restroom has been remodeled and includes the convenience of flush toilets and heating, making it a significant plus for campers during colder months. This suggests that while some facilities might be dated, efforts are being made to upgrade key areas.
One practical aspect to consider is the campground's proximity to a highway and train tracks, as indicated on a map. However, one reviewer noted that the road was far enough away that it did not pose an issue, and they did not hear a train during their 24-hour stay. This suggests that while nearby, these transportation routes may not significantly detract from the peace and quiet of the camping experience.
A notable feature highlighted in the reviews is the campground's accessibility during the winter months. Even when only one loop (presumably the "golden" loop) is open, the roads within the campground, including those in currently closed areas, are plowed but not salted. This demonstrates an effort to maintain access even when a large portion of the campground is not in active use for camping. The continued cleanliness and warmth of the remodeled restroom in the winter are also significant advantages for off-season campers.
However, some reviews also point out areas where services could be improved. One visitor in mid-October noted that only sites in the Golden Loop were available and that these sites were a little close together. This highlights the importance of checking site availability and characteristics when booking, especially during potentially busier times of the year. Another review mentioned that while the bathroom was updated, it lacked paper towels or an air dryer, advising visitors to bring a hand towel. Additionally, the shower house was reported as locked up during one visit, and the dump station was described as average, with a rigid rinse hose that was hard to connect. These details are important for campers to be aware of when planning their visit.
Considering the information from the reviews, Shenango Campground offers a lakeside environment with a large number of campsites, including waterfront and semi-private options. While the infrastructure is older, the recent remodeling of the winter loop restroom with flush toilets and heat is a significant benefit, especially for off-season camping. The campground also appears to maintain accessibility during winter by plowing roads. However, potential campers should be aware that sites in certain loops can be close together, and some restroom amenities like paper towels and open showers may not always be available. The dump station also has some reported usability issues.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews. However, the fact that the campground remains open and accessible during the late fall and winter, with at least one loop offering heated restrooms, could be seen as an implicit benefit for those looking for year-round "camping near me" options. The variety of site types, including waterfront locations, also adds to its appeal.
For local users interested in Shenango Campground, it would be advisable to call them directly at (724) 962-7746 or their mobile number, +1 724-962-7746, to inquire about site availability, the status of amenities like showers, and any seasonal closures or specific loop openings. This direct communication will help in planning the best possible camping experience based on current conditions and personal preferences.
In summary, if you are searching for "camping near me" near Transfer, PA, Shenango Campground offers a lakeside setting with a large selection of sites, some with waterfront views. The campground has older infrastructure, but the winter loop features a recently remodeled and heated restroom. While some amenities might be basic or seasonally limited (like showers), the availability of waterfront and semi-private sites, along with winter accessibility, makes Shenango Campground a potential option for various camping needs. Contacting the campground directly is recommended for the most current information on services and site availability.

Shenango Campground Reviews
Visited late December, only one loop is open. It is not crowded. There are about 300 sites total, some are close, some are water front, some are semi private. The infrastructure is older but the restroom in the winter (golden) loop is recently remodeled, it has flush toilets and heat. There is a highway and train tracks not to distant when you look at the map. The road is far enough away that it was not an issue, in my 24 hour stay I didn't hear a train.Visit again late January, the to lake is frozen. The bathroom is still clean and warm. The roads are plowed but not salted, including the roads in the areas not open to camping currently.
Feb 01, 2025 · James JenkinsWe visited in mid October. Only sites available were in the Golden Loop. Sites are a little close. Other areas of the campground have some nice sites with good views of the water.Bathroom was updated but no paper towels or air dryer, bring a hand towel to dry your hands. Shower house was locked up. Dump station was average. Rigid rinse hose was hard to connect.
Oct 20, 2024 · Thomas SmithI have never been dogged like this before here. We just arrived and a guy told us to put on paper on the pole as soon as we finished setting up. Two park rangers came into our site at 10:08 pm to remind us it is quiet time. We weren't doing anything wrong. Just laughing and enjoying our extended family. Our 6 year old nephew has a loud voice and it was hard to get him to lower his voice. The rangers were polite about it though. Getting ready to leave and the guy stops and asked if we extended our stay. It was 1:55. We said no. He said check out is 2. We knew. We just got a little behind on our time. I get the times are for a reason. A few minutes after shouldn't bother them.
Jun 09, 2024 · Rowena harrisI was so unhappy with the showers..the water was cold...in the one stall the water sprays out into the drying dressing area and lays in a deep puddle so hard to dress wo getting your clothes wet. They could definitely use updating
Jul 06, 2024 · Peggy GoodmanOne big complaint is the shower, in one work disgusting at best. We arrived on a Sunday so I expected the showers to be dirty after a long weekend and a full campground. What I didn't expect we to go in on Wednesday morning to find they haven't been touched. Same clumps of grass and mud on the floor from Sunday. The other issue is the water in on off no temperature control. The water was hot but to hot. A child could not stand the temperature, I'm sure they would be burned. On a positive note the campground over all is nice 4 stars. COE just needs to step up on cleaning the public bathrooms.
