Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey

24787 Luckey Rd, Perrysburg, OH 43551, USA

This KOA was a little off the beaten path but open in winter months. We stopped in here on our way south in December. Unfortunately, arriving after hours. We were told there was water available but when we arrived it was not operational. It was a heated line but somewhere it froze up. Luckily, we had a little water int he tank still. They had a decent sized bathhouse however, half of it was out of commission. The price was a bit steep for an overnight spot to park with electric and sewer. Not much at the park itself. Aside from the usual KOA gem station and small play area. - Adam Vengroff

Looking for a convenient and potentially accommodating campground in your local area? Consider Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey, situated at 24787 Luckey Rd, Perrysburg, OH 43551, USA. As a KOA Journey campground, it falls under the 'camping near me' category, offering a familiar brand experience for those seeking reliable camping options close to home.

Based on customer reviews, the Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey appears to be a campground that serves as a functional stopover, particularly noted for being open during the winter months. This accessibility during colder periods can be a significant advantage for travelers and local campers seeking year-round options. However, it's important to consider the specific experiences shared by recent visitors to get a comprehensive understanding of what to expect.

In terms of services, the campground offers essential hookups for RVs, including electric and sewer. This makes it a suitable option for RV owners looking for overnight or short-term stays with necessary utilities. One reviewer mentioned being told that water was available even when arriving after hours in December, although it was found to be non-operational due to freezing. This highlights the importance of confirming the availability of specific utilities, especially during the winter season, and potentially being self-sufficient with water upon arrival.

The presence of a "decent sized bathhouse" is another service offered at the campground. However, a recent visitor reported that half of the bathhouse was out of commission, which could impact the convenience and accessibility of these facilities, especially during busier times. It would be prudent to inquire about the operational status of the bathhouse when making a reservation or upon arrival.

Features of the campground include a KOA "gem station" (likely a camp store offering supplies and perhaps souvenirs) and a small play area for children. While these amenities can add value to the camping experience, one reviewer noted that there wasn't much else in terms of park-specific features beyond these. Therefore, if you are looking for extensive recreational facilities, this campground might be more focused on providing essential services for travelers.

Several reviews highlight specific considerations for RVers, particularly those with larger rigs. The entrance and interior roads are described as "tight," which could pose a challenge for larger RVs to navigate. While large trees were reportedly trimmed high, smaller trees were noted as potential obstacles in some spots. RV owners should be mindful of these conditions and potentially inquire about site suitability based on the size of their vehicle.

For those planning to arrive after dark, especially during the winter, one reviewer strongly advises calling for assistance. The campground is described as dark and potentially difficult to navigate at night due to tight turns and tree limbs. This suggests that arriving during daylight hours is preferable, or arranging for guidance if an after-hours arrival is unavoidable.

The self check-in process for after-hours arrivals also received critical feedback. One guest who made a same-day reservation and arrived at 4 pm found no map in the night box and no pre-drawn maps to available sites. This necessitated wandering the campground to find an open and suitable spot. The only map with site type and hookup information was located on the side of a building, requiring guests to take a picture before exploring. The regular guest maps reportedly lacked legends, potentially leading to selecting a site without the desired amenities (e.g., sewer or correct amperage). This experience underscores the importance of clear and accessible site information, especially for new arrivals.

Winter camping at Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey has specific implications regarding water hookups. Guests are informed that water is not available at the sites during winter and must fill their fresh tanks beforehand. While this is a common practice in colder climates, one reviewer experienced "terrible" water pressure at the fill-up station, taking an hour to fill their tank to two-thirds capacity. This is a significant factor to consider when planning a winter stay, as it could impact your travel time and preparation.

In terms of connectivity, the campground's WiFi reportedly does not support TVs. However, Verizon cell signal was noted as good. This information can be helpful for those who rely on internet access for work or communication during their stay.

Regarding pricing, one reviewer felt that the cost was "a bit steep" for an overnight spot with electric and sewer, considering the limited amenities and the issues encountered. This suggests that while the campground provides essential services, the value proposition might be a point of consideration for budget-conscious travelers.

As a local user looking for 'camping near me', Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey offers the convenience of a KOA brand and potential year-round availability. However, the recent customer feedback highlights several areas where the experience could be improved, including water availability in winter, bathhouse functionality, site navigation (especially for larger RVs and after-dark arrivals), and the efficiency of the self check-in process. It is advisable to contact the campground directly at (419) 837-6848 or +1 419-837-6848 to inquire about current conditions, site availability, and any specific concerns you may have based on the reviews. While no specific promotional information was provided in the reviews, it's always worth asking about any ongoing specials or discounts when you call.

In conclusion, Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey offers a potentially convenient camping option in the Perrysburg, OH area. It provides essential RV hookups and is open in winter. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the reported challenges with water availability in winter, bathhouse maintenance, site navigation, and check-in procedures. Contacting the campground directly for the most current information is highly recommended to ensure a smooth and satisfactory camping experience close to home.
