White Pine Canoe Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking a peaceful 'camping near me' experience with excellent river access, White Pine Canoe Campground, located at 6761 Woods Rd, Grayling, MI 49738, USA, is a noteworthy option. You can reach them at (989) 348-7068 or +1 989-348-7068 for inquiries. Based on the available reviews, this campground offers a clean and quiet environment, particularly appealing to those who enjoy camping along the river.
One of the most prominent features highlighted by a visitor is the campground's advantageous location with "great river spots." This suggests that many campsites are situated in close proximity to the river, likely the Au Sable River, given the campground's name and the region's well-known waterways. Camping near the river offers opportunities for various water-related activities and provides a serene and picturesque backdrop for your stay. The reviewer also mentioned "new rings," presumably referring to fire rings at the campsites, which are essential for campfires and cooking.
The presence of a "water point" is another practical amenity noted by a camper. Access to a reliable water source is crucial for any camping trip, and knowing that White Pine Canoe Campground provides this adds to its convenience and suitability for extended stays. This eliminates the need for campers to carry in all their water and ensures they can easily replenish their supply for drinking, cooking, and other needs.
Another reviewer described the campground as "well maintained" and noted that it offers "space for probably a hundred tents or more." This indicates that White Pine Canoe Campground is a sizable facility capable of accommodating a significant number of campers, primarily those using tents. The spaciousness of the campground can contribute to a less crowded and more enjoyable experience, allowing campers to have adequate space and privacy.
For those planning to explore the river, the campground provides a "nice landing for the boat" and an "easy ramp up off the river." This is a significant advantage for canoers and kayakers, as it facilitates easy launching and retrieval of their boats. The well-maintained landing and ramp suggest that the campground is well-equipped to cater to those who come specifically for paddling activities on the river.
Regarding the sanitary facilities, one reviewer mentioned that "the toilets were extremely smelly but I think that is to be expected, I was just glad they were there." This provides an honest perspective on a potentially less desirable aspect of the campground. While the reviewer was appreciative of the presence of toilets, the strong odor suggests that these might be vault toilets, which can sometimes have ventilation issues, especially in warmer weather. Potential visitors should be prepared for this aspect of a more rustic camping experience.
On a more positive note, the same reviewer commented on the quality of the ground for tent camping, stating, "The ground I put my tent on was level and very nice for a tent." Level tent sites are highly desirable as they ensure a more comfortable and stable setup for tents, leading to a better night's sleep. This suggests that the campground takes care in maintaining the tent camping areas.
The availability of firewood is often a concern for campers. The reviewer mentioned, "We brought our own firewood so I did not see if there was any to be found on the ground." This indicates that while bringing your own firewood is an option, the availability of firewood for purchase or gathering on-site is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews. Local users should inquire about the campground's policy on firewood when making their plans.
Finally, the natural environment surrounding the campground was described as "The woods were pretty around the campground." This suggests that White Pine Canoe Campground is situated in a scenic wooded area, enhancing the overall camping experience with natural beauty and providing shade and a sense of immersion in nature.
Based on the available feedback, White Pine Canoe Campground offers a clean and quiet camping experience with excellent access to the river, likely the Au Sable, making it particularly appealing to canoers and kayakers. The presence of a well-maintained boat landing and ramp further supports this. The campground is spacious with level tent sites and provides essential amenities like new fire rings and a water point. While the toilets might have an odor issue typical of vault toilets, their presence is appreciated. The surrounding woods are described as pretty, contributing to a pleasant natural ambiance. However, information regarding firewood availability is lacking.
For local users seeking a 'camping near me' destination that prioritizes a tranquil riverside setting and convenient access for paddling, White Pine Canoe Campground in Grayling is a strong contender. Its cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and well-maintained facilities for boaters make it an attractive option for those looking to enjoy the Au Sable River and the surrounding natural beauty. To gather more details about firewood, specific campsite amenities, and any current regulations or recommendations, contacting the campground directly at (989) 348-7068 or +1 989-348-7068 is advised. White Pine Canoe Campground Reviews
Clean and quiet with great river spots, new rings, and water point
Aug 05, 2023 · Lyle JohnsonWell maintained campground, space for probably a hundred tents or more. Nice landing for the boat. Easy ramp up off the river. The toilets were extremely smelly but I think that is to be expected, I was just glad they were there. The ground I put my tent on was level and very nice for a tent. We brought our own firewood so I did not see if there was any to be found on the ground. The woods were pretty around the campground.
Aug 17, 2022 · Curtis CastoWe stayed here overnight on our canoe trip. Very quiet and full of wildlife during the weekdays.
Sep 29, 2024 · Vanessa CaseyIt's a big camp ground on the river. It's got one main landing and two small ones that people used in the past. It's got well pump water, pit toilet and lots of room. Nice place to camp when your paddling down river on the Au Sable.
Aug 30, 2021 · Drex PagtalunanOn the river access is good. Finding by vehicle is near impossible. I could not locate it via road so I don't suggest any RVs coming back as it is a tight two-track to get there and all I saw was a gate. From the river though it's perfect for an overnight stop with a big or small group.
