This campground is very beautiful and definitely worth a try! We were on site 22 and it was just a few minutes walk from the lake. The campsites are right on top of each other, literally zero privacy. They have port a potties available, but the actual bathrooms are closed. There is no water at all, not even a water spigot so make sure to bring your own. - Aubrey

Tony Grove Campground Introduce

Looking for a "camping near me" experience centered around a beautiful alpine lake with opportunities for hiking and scenic exploration? Tony Grove Campground, located off FR140 in Richmond, Utah, offers just that. Situated a short walk from the stunning Tony Grove Lake, this campground provides a picturesque setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Based on recent customer reviews, it’s a highly sought-after location with paved access and clean facilities. However, potential visitors should be aware of certain limitations, including the lack of available water within the campground and the limited privacy between campsites. For local users prioritizing lake access and hiking in a beautiful environment, Tony Grove Campground is a compelling option, provided they come prepared for the specific conditions.

The environment of Tony Grove Campground is undeniably its primary draw. Described as "very beautiful" and a "great campground," its key feature is its close proximity to Tony Grove Lake. One reviewer specifically mentioned their site being just a few minutes' walk from the lake, highlighting the ease of access for swimming, fishing, and enjoying the lakeside scenery. The area surrounding the campground is also noted for its "great hiking," suggesting numerous trails catering to various skill levels, allowing campers to further explore the natural beauty of the region. The presence of a beautiful small pond located up past the campground adds another element of scenic interest for those willing to venture slightly further. The paved access to the campground ensures a smooth arrival, which is a significant convenience. However, one notable environmental aspect to be aware of is the lack of privacy between campsites, as they are described as being "right on top of each other," with "literally zero privacy." This might be a concern for campers who value seclusion and personal space at their campsite. Despite this, the overall beauty of the location and the easy access to the lake and hiking trails contribute to a highly desirable camping environment.

In terms of services and features, Tony Grove Campground offers some essential amenities, but it's crucial to note the significant absence of water. Reviewers explicitly state that "there is no water at all, not even a water spigot," and another confirms "no water for drinking." Therefore, all campers must bring their own sufficient supply of water for drinking, cooking, and all other needs. While the actual bathrooms were reported as closed by one reviewer, another mentioned "clean restrooms" being available. This discrepancy might indicate seasonal closures or temporary situations, so it's advisable to check the current status of the restroom facilities before planning a visit. The campground does provide "port a potties," which were available even when the main bathrooms were closed. Each campsite is equipped with "fire rings" and "picnic tables," which are standard and essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience, allowing for campfires and outdoor dining. Trash collection is also available on-site, contributing to the cleanliness of the campground. Despite the lack of water, the availability of clean restrooms and the presence of fire rings and picnic tables ensure a degree of convenience for campers.

A significant feature of Tony Grove Campground is its reservation system. "All sites are reservable," which is common for popular campgrounds, especially those near urban or popular areas. However, one reviewer pointed out a potential issue with this system, noting that many reserved sites were empty even over a week-long stay, including a weekend where only half the reserved sites were occupied. This suggests that while reservations are necessary to secure a spot, the campground might benefit from blocking off some sites for "first come first serve" (FCFS) to better accommodate drop-in visitors. Despite the reservation system, the hosts are mentioned as trying to accommodate drop-in campers when possible, indicating a degree of flexibility. Local users planning to camp at Tony Grove should be aware of the need to make reservations, especially during peak season and weekends, but it might be worth inquiring about any potential availability for drop-ins, particularly during weekdays or less busy periods.

Another crucial piece of information for potential visitors is the lack of cell service at the campground. One reviewer explicitly stated "No cell service at the CG." This means that campers should be prepared to be disconnected during their stay, which can be a positive aspect for those seeking a true escape into nature but is important to consider for safety and communication purposes. It's advisable to inform others of your plans and expected return time before heading to the campground, and to have a plan for emergency communication if needed.

The provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional information for Tony Grove Campground. It is unknown whether there are any discounts for longer stays, seasonal specials, or other types of offers. As Tony Grove Campground is located within a National Forest (part of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest), any fees and regulations are likely set by the forest service. Local users interested in the current camping fees or potential discounts should consult the official website of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest or contact them directly using the phone number provided: (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100. Information regarding reservations and fees can often be found on recreation.gov as well.

In conclusion, Tony Grove Campground offers a very beautiful "camping near me" experience with direct access to the stunning Tony Grove Lake and numerous hiking opportunities. Its paved access and clean restrooms are definite advantages. However, the complete lack of water at the campground is a significant factor that all visitors must be prepared for by bringing their own supply. Additionally, the limited privacy between campsites might be a drawback for some. While all sites are reservable, the hosts seem willing to accommodate drop-ins when possible. The absence of cell service means campers should plan accordingly for communication. Despite these considerations, the overall positive reviews and the allure of the lake and surrounding natural beauty make Tony Grove Campground a worthwhile destination for local users seeking a scenic and active outdoor getaway. Remember to check the current status of restroom facilities and always bring an ample supply of water.
